**"Danger always strikes when everything seems fine."** this has been like the rewatch i've looked forward to the most, it's been over a year since i watched this masterpiece for the first time in the cinema and ive never watched it since, until now. i always thought this was slow paced but oh my god i was so wrong this 3 hour and a half movie flew in without even letting me take in what i was watching, i loved every single second of this masterpiece. akira kurosawa has always been one of my favourite directors, the one thing he always does is deliver a fucking incredible movie. i think the last movie i watched of his was rhapsody of august which is truly underrated. this is just one of the most influential movies ever, it inspired movies like a bugs life and the magnificent seven, even inspired the avengers in a way which is incredible if u ask me. the cinematography in this movie is just gorgeous, that scene with the young samurai sitting down on the flowers is so fucking pretty and then that ending shot speaks so much on the consequences of war and what violence does to people. the soundtrack is heavily underrated, i love the main theme of this movie it's actually so good, it has that sense of the epic scale yet it has a very melancholic tone towards the end of the main theme that provides a very good soundtrack for the whole movie. the fact the battle in this movie takes up roughly a third of the movie is wild, it doesn't feel dragged out nor does it ever feel like time is wasted it's just so perfectly executed. i can't get over the acting from toshiro mifune, he pulls off such an excellent performance with him being related to a farmer and how one of the incidents mirror what happened to him as a child is just incredible. the ending to this movie is one of the most memorable yet simple endings ever. amazing movie

**"I don't even call it violence when it's self-defense, I call it intelligence." — Malcolm X** i can't believe this is still the only spike lee movie ive watched, after i rewatched this masterpiece i bought a spike lee collection which featured many movies that were on my watchlist such as clockers, mo better blues and he got game so im very very excited especially after seeing this, his style is so distinctive and unique i rarely see a filmmaker with so much detail in their movies like spike lees in do the right thing. i been meaning to watch his other movies and i swear i will next month after this rewatch run is over because oh my god i never realised how amazing this was, well i did but i found new reasons to love this even more. the soundtrack is so powerful, i love how the main song was made for this movie and the opening dance scene really sets the tone for this chaotic, powerful and wild movie. the cinematographer captures the blazing heat and the tension between everyone in such a creative way with those dutch angels and then those quickly cut scenes between each character when shit gets intense is just such a smart way to show intensity and buildup in ur movie. i love this movie so much and i will forever love this movie for getting me so invested in film when i watched it last february for the first time. the acting from everyone is phenomenal, i love every single performance in this movie it's so iconic and theyre all so convincing. the pacing of this is also incredible, never a single slow part it's just consistently chaotic and intense with no real stop to it and i love it for that. the themes of racial tension and police brutality are explored so realistic it's honestly so sad yet so powerful in how the movie ends with the quotes from malcolm x and martin luther king jr. amazing movie
