The Thing
When coming into this movie I thought it was going to be extremely plot focused with no appeal but I was extremely mistaken.
All though of course not realistic “the thing” was majestically grotesque, the way it moved so un-naturally really gave it depth as it wasn’t just an overpowered alien that could shape shift - it actually had a fair weakness .
I personally think the highlight of this movie was how beautiful it was, each location was coloured so well and the overall aesthetic of the settings were just so amazing. The pacing was also great, I was never really bored as there was always smth going on, I believe it was the perfect length for the movie as it wasn’t dragged out in the slightest and it had an ending that left the audience with suspense as to what happened to the “survivors”.
For the time I genuinely believe John carpenter made a masterpiece of a horror/sci-fi that really should be studied when it comes to aesthetics and experimentation with shots.
