Babylon

wow. i was floored the entire time and it was a 3 hour movie. a story about making beautiful things and withstanding the heat of the limelight. it’s entertaining as all hell and is very effective at delivering a few key messages. and it’s also a film about films and handles that really well (and even adds a third layer at the end without being obnoxious). loved the direction, the characters were all so fun to watch, the music was nicely interspersed but not overly intrusive, the shots look gorgeous, and the main theme is applicable to so many areas of life. this one hit me hard — definitely one of my favorites i saw this year. avant garde!
