i’m very mixed on this This was definitely a good movie, it held my attention for the entirety of it. PTA was really in his bag with the directing, his camerawork is always noticeable! The score was great & elevated what PTA already had going. The acting too was really great. Leo, Sean Penn & Benicio Del Toro did phenomenal. Sean Penn as the villain was incredible casting he fit the role perfectly i can’t imagine many people better for it (Christopher Waltz maybe). The car chase sequence was really cool too. I do have a few problems with this though. The first 30 minutes really. The portrayal of the revolutionaries were horrible i think, it made them seem like aimless & unorganised. Also, the main villains being a niche white supremacy group instead of the government or other forms of power is weak, i’m not sure why i saw this movie being branded a revolutionist movie when it feels insulting to any such movement. But regardless i was able to watch the 3 hour runtime & enjoy it

***The dead tree is as important as the living one. *** Visually one of the most beautiful movies i’ve ever had the joy of seeing. The subtle score playing over shots of the forests felt so mystical it really felt like a dream. The ending sequence was breathtaking, tears rolling down my face as the credits started rolling it was amazing. The story was slow, intimate & felt so human. Joel Edgerton delivered an incredible & memorable performance.

So much to love about this! Chloé Zhao did an excellent job. The blocking in some of the scenes was so masterfully done. There were many moments stood out, the one where William is hitting the table in anger & frustration, & taking Agnes around the room in one camera take was, i think, one of my favourite scenes. The acting was incredible too! Jessie Buckley, Paul Mescal & Jacobi Jupe all had amazing performances in their own rights. Jessie’s cries & screams were so guttural & felt like real grief it was really cool. Paul Mescal sorrowfully looking out over the water saying the famous soliloquy was really cool acting. & Jacobi Jupe wow i can’t believe he’s only 12 he’s got a bright future! I wouldn’t be upset if this wins best picture (im doubtful though) i got 4 more to check out my opinion could change

This was likely the most beautiful movie i have ever seen, it was shot amazingly. The colours were incredible, the reds popped so well so very memorable. The score really helped elevate some of the scenes making them so much more interesting. The sets & buildings were really cool & well designed too. The acting was another strong point. Oscar Isaac & Jacob Elordi delivered standout performances, so very convincing & playing their characters well. I haven’t read the book yet so i can’t talk on the adaptation of it (i’m not an adaptation purist when it comes to movie at all). However, i think that it could’ve been elevated to a higher level if they let the watcher think more for themselves. At points it felt like i was being told exactly what to think & feel rather than being able to feel my own thoughts & ideas. Saying “Victor you ARE the monster”, for example, really diminishes that & doesn’t let the watcher come to their own conclusion.
