great movie but i hate rude ass anime fans with no theatre etiquette GET OFF YOUR FUCKING PHONE!!!!!! WHY DO YOU HAVE IT ON FULL BRIGHTNESS I CAN SEE IT IN THE CORNER OF MY EYE!!!!!

really good! may have to accept that no frankenstein adaptation will fully capture the book and be like it because you know… it’s a book, and frankenstein is a particularly hard to adapt book, since not only is it a story within a story within a story, but most of the ‘journey’ / meat of the book that makes it so great is the characters internal thought processes, development, and contradictions. have fun trying to truly capture that in an audiovisual medium. additionally, frankenstein has become it’s own cultural figure that’s so detached from the book, so in making an adaptation, you’re left with the difficulty of having to also make something that works for an audience that only has pop cultural understanding and are completely unfamiliar with the book. i understand why most of the adaptational changes present were made and that’s good enough for me. overall i do appreciate this being a better “loyal enough” film adaptation to go to than the previous “loyal enough” film, the kenneth branagh movie we do not talk about. i actually ended up liking the adaptational changes to elizabeth (which are the most major tbh) the most. my biggest question however is why the film ends on a lord byron quote? like, huh? (as an entirely seperate note, i was weirdly horny during the body dissection sequence and i refuse to think about what this means about me psychologically)

ykw i cant even judge this movie that hard, because in my brain, that’ll be me and chappell roan one day

pretty much everything but the writing is great. writing still isnt bad (if you cant tell by my score) but it feels like it’s missing something. i remember people saying they were scared for luca guadagnino to handle the topics of this film but i found this so inoffensive that i kinda wish something outrageous happened. feels inspired by tär but doesnt have the same commitment to making the story specific or truly making the central character an unquestionably bad person
