Holy shit this guy is so talented. The use of tone shifting is so unique.

Bear should’ve killed himself sooner

Insane that Stephen King worked on the story like what the fuck lmao. And Stan Winston directing it is crazy too considering this is the same guy behind the makeup work for The Wiz, Terminator 2 & 3, Batman Returns, and Constantine. Michael Jackson’s level of greatness really had the best people from every world wanting in on the fun. I’ve never seen this in full before. It’s really a trip because you can feel how much fun all the legendary people involved were having making it. You really had no idea where it was going to go at any point. The makeup/VFX still kind of goes crazy, especially the way they motion captured Michael’s movement and dance performance with that skeleton. And the Michael makeup in the fat suit is incredible. He gives a reallyyyy fun performance. This whole thing is basically him going HOOOOOOOOO for 30 minutes and it’s amazing.

I’ve been sitting with how I feel about this movie for a few days. This shit was genuinely amazing and I already need to rewatch it. Absolutely terrifying from the start. Humans are truly batshit insane. And honestly as someone who knows I’ve projected a lot onto women before, this movie felt terrifying even before the wish happened. What was crazy is how perfectly it rode the line of her being absolutely terrifying while also being just as much the victim, actually more. Her performance genuinely had my jaw on the floor the entire movie. Might end up being my favorite performance all year. I love movies where people feel like these heightened, artful, almost unbearable versions of real humans. Like [Possession](https://letterboxd.com/film/punch-drunk-love/) or [Punch Drunk Love](https://letterboxd.com/film/punch-drunk-love/). Just people unraveling in ways that feel ugly and honest and way too real. [](https://letterboxd.com/film/possession/) Also I love that this little white Latinabiguous girl just came in and dropped a performance that makes you realize how many actors are out here not really pushing themselves like that. She really went there. The thing that stuck with me was how fearless it felt. I was genuinely in awe watching it unfold. Like aside from the fact she’s gorgeous, it was really that level of commitment that got me. Definitely going back to see this. Hit way too close to home.
