Before the Rain

there’s a scene in the final act that deftly conveys how self-destructiveness seems to be inherent to our identity. now it’s thirty years later and time is still a circle. this is what my parents lived in and what i was raised in. and yet !!!!!!! in a film where so much entrenched violence takes place, i left with a despairing sense of hope that violence can be escaped, because the circle isn’t round and by virtue of this doesn’t quite really trap us at all.
