That final look back at the camera, my eyes were water-falling to the floor.
Such a beautiful and heartbreaking story. The intimate direction and naturalistic performances could not have been more perfect. Eden Dambrine put his whole heart into every scene with such a raw and moving performance. Which is all the more impressive knowing this was his first feature. Dhont happened to sit next to him on a train, was so impressed and offered him the role.
Dhont created a beautiful tapestry, rounded out by the cinematography adding such intimacy to the film. The score never stays its welcome and the scenes of the two running in the fields, “chefs kiss”. The extended cast, particularly Émilie Dequenne, just bring their A-game supporting Dambrine and this beautiful story.
