Irreversible
People forget that this is literally the whole point of the film. Gaspar Noé isn’t trying to make you something watchable or entertaining, instead he’s holding a mirror that reflects our society with its flaws.
The rape scene is absolutely unbearable, I was on the verge of tears, but it’s supposed to be like that. Most movies sanitize sexual violence and try to make it less shocking using different ways. This one doesn’t. You’re stuck there with the whole scene with no cuts, it forces you to face it without escaping. It’s horrifying, but it’s the closest thing to reality. And I respect the director for that.
So, as I said it’s not a film you “enjoy”, it’s something ugly you experience. It educates in the worst possible way, by putting you in the victim’s place.
I saw someone here say that the people who didn't like the movie are the same ones who would turn their back on the victim at the tunnel, and that’s painfully true.
