it’s scrappy and stitched together like a zine made at 2am, but i like it that way as queer india in 2014 wasn’t polished or brand-safe either. it was inconvenient, and held together by rage, hope, and one extremely overworked animator (!!) and maybe that’s why this film hits me harder now, because my own journey of coming to terms with being a queer trans man has been anything but linear. when i left india for england in 2018, i remember being so awestruck looking at openly gay couples making out inside galleries under surveillance - the whole concept felt so foreign to me the first week i was there lmao. even standing outside a sainsbury outlet during pride month, staring at some “gay people matter” corporate bullshit on a window decal, and tearing up like an idiot because i’d never seen a country pretend to care about people like me before. queer affirmation felt foreign, almost suspicious. this short reminds me where i came from so it always feels nice to revisit. watch it here: https://vimeo.com/103415272
