Andrei Rublev
I don’t like calling movies art. To me it seems like a buzz word that just doesn't make sense to apply, cause art comes in all sorts of ways so why does it make sense to use it as a way to compliment a movie. Keeping them separate is what I think makes sense.
With that stupidity being said. THIS MOVIE IS ART. I’m in awe of it. I’ve never seen a movie so long flow so fast, the entire thing is this biblical journey that I can’t even describe in a way that does it justice. Around 45 minutes into it, one of the most beautiful monologues I’ve heard in a movie is given. The entire last hour of the movie feels like its own separate movie but still works so well with the rest that it’s just ludicrous.
This movie digs deep into you and pulls out reactions and emotions you wouldn’t expect. I feel like this is just flat out one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
With me there’s a difference in 5/5s some are just movies that are absolute favorites of mine that I just love to death, flaws and all. And then there are ones like this. That are just unabashedly masterpieces that are uncompromising and irreplaceable.
You can’t call yourself a movie fan if you haven’t watched this movie. I’m only 2 films into my Tarkovsky marathon and I just witnessed genuine perfection and I have no idea where else he can go.
