I don’t understand it at all, let me make that clear. But I feel it, I know it.
This is a dense movie, just very flat out, you could probably watch it 20-30 times and still not understand it. But it hits you. Tarkovsky is a genius and this atleast so far is his most personal movie it feels.
I don’t relate to what any of the characters go through, but I feel like I do. Ts don’t make sense if you haven’t seen this movie but I swear it does if you have.
This is like a 9.5 or 10 idek what to rate this tbh. Tarkovsky is the best director ever. And I’m only halfway through.
I’m editing this in cause I forgot to add this, but there are so many little moments in this movie I’m going to remember forever. Like the last 5 minutes, the hair washing scene, the grenade scene, that one perfect gust of wind to close out the moment, the child sitting waiting for what feels like forever for his mom. The little things in the movie feel so important.
But obviously there are the big things, like the visual of the house burning down, the footage of Moscow back in the 30s, the way the movie switched between black and white, colored, and this weird middle ground. There is just so much with this movie that is just going to be on my mind.
