THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF THE YEAR!!!! 55 IN THEATERS!
I was hooked from the MOMENT i saw the trailer. I knew tyriq withers was gonna knock it out of the park, and SURPRISINGLY Marlon Wayans did a damn good job too!! They carried this from great, to amazing!
I was honestly so shocked this has such bad reviews, but then it looked at most of the people reviewing it and its IGNORANT and PRIVELEDGED ass white people that get uncomfortable when they hear the N-word or have to hear a rap song. The amount of nuance this has that only people in the black community would understand is why salty ass white people are hating so bad!! They would've eaten this up if Jordan Peele had directed this same exact movie himself, but unfortunately they have a scarcity mindset that only a select few minorities should be allowed to entertain them!!
I GET this movie, I know and understand what it was trying to do, and I deeply appreciate it!! The imagery was beautiful, the acting was so TOP NOTCH, the allegories were so intricate, the soundrack was BANGING and personally I loved the movie from start to finish INCLUDING the ending and that twist too!
As much as I despise football, I live in a college town and people actually do get this passionate about it. Some people, especially in the black community, DO view sports as the only way out. But yes, the entire drafting process eerily resembles some sort of neo slave auction. Probing of the body, grooming, buying and trading players, making them fight to be at the top and then sell out to old white people. Like cmon, if you didnt get it, then just say that.
Me and a freind were discussing if the incredibly short runtime would make the movie feel too rushed, but the pacing was so incredible and every bit of runtime was used in the most advantageous way. I loved this movie, and i will be going back to see it!
