More like... No memories of murder, ha ha ha!
Terrifying and horrifying are two very different branches on the scary tree. Horror is horrifying it's seeing a women's face get lifted off, or an X in a prostitutes chest. But that's not where I found this film to be scariest, that's when it's terrific. The ambiance, the production, the barren sets, the stoic nature of the actors, the fire and water, the uncanny nature when I see him try his same tactics.
The film is very open ended but to me it's about responsibility, what can you be taught to bare, what can you forget, what can you make someone do, who is the blank face in a video.
The detective and the murderer have their own methods of running away from what they need to care for, the detective gave his wife to the institution and the murderer plays a role as an amnesic. The detective solves the case, the cat is out of the bag and we know the trick but something allures him for more, if he just says that's it, there's the allure of a holiday with his wife (that same wife who he may reveal to think is a burden to the murderer but mourns her heavily in his illusion of her suicide) but he carries on.
