Blade Runner 2049
i mean cmon this an absolutely fucking visual feast. and it’s really just fundamental sci-fi which explores one of the most important questions which lies at the very core of the genre—what makes us “human”? also K becomes an even more interesting protagonist every time i watch this film; there’s something about his perspective which just feels so unique, especially for sci-fi.
the film is overwhelmingly slow and off-beat at times, but i’ll always defend this. i think this both heightens the suspense and occasionally horrifying moments while also giving you the time to reflect on what you’re watching while you’re watching it. everything just sinks in that much more, even if the 2.5+ hour runtime can feel like a bit of a drag at times.
finally, having watched this movie at least five times, i can confidently say that there’s one scene which always sticks with me the most—the body-melding kissing scene. this is one of the most profoundly uncanny moments i’ve ever watched.
