Chungking Express
You know a movie's really great when I pull out my laptop instead of using my phone to write the review.
My friend first recommended this movie to me about a year ago. First, I ignored him like a moron because I didn't have the time to watch it nor I thought I would be into foreign movies like that. However, over the past year, Ive started to really enjoy foreign movies and figured to finally listen to my friend about it and watch it. Thank goodness he was right in that I would love it because wow this movie is fantastic. I've battled loneliness throughout my life and this movie does a great job in capturing the feeling. The music is genius as using both the Mamas & the Papas and the Cranberries as your main music choices fit into the story so well. I was very shocked that I loved both storylines equally in this movie and even more than that, liked how seamless the transition between the two stories were. This is my first Wong Kar-wai movie and I have to say he already is a master of editing to me. I think between the characters, which by the way are all perfectly executed, the character I related to the most was He Zhiwu, portrayed by Takeshi Kaneshiro. The desperate clinging to hope as he buys the pineapples, the awkward pick up lines and conversational tactics he has when trying to pick up the blonde woman at the bar, to totally ignoring the one girl that would actually be perfect for him without realizing it all felt so relatable to me. Fantastic movie and easily the best movie I've watched this year so far.
