La Haine
This movie honestly shocked me in a lot of ways. Yes I expected it to be great based off my friend's recommendations and its high score on letterboxd. I knew based off the the basic set up of the movie that it would be very tense. What I did not expect was to be absolutely hooked by the movie the entire time. The director of this movie might be the greatest oone hit wonder of all time since his next most popular movie is Gothika (LOL) yet its one of my favorite directorial performances ever? The way he moves and freezes the camera is masterful.
This movie is also very cool. You got hooked with each of the friends, all three of them I can see friends in my own life being like. The random music that blasts in this movie, the bret hart poster, and the USA clothing are such cool references that fit in so well. The only other director I have seen do that is Tarantino. It really does handle a very tense and scary storyline with such ease and comfort, that the ending absolutely rocks you to your core. An absolute shocker that makes you feel like crap. This movie is a 97/100.
