Even though I found the pacing a bit slow, this was a great homage to Elvis. I didn't know much about him before this movie but now I'm definitely going to look more into his inner life. Austin Butler perfectly embodied Elvis and at some scenes I couldn't tell if it was him or old footage. My next watch has to be priscilla to complete the double feature and see more of their personal life without being "glamorized".

The visuals were very good and I can’t believe it came out in the 60s. The score had a strong main theme, but then it would switch to a really creepy choir for like 40 minutes and there was so much HEAVY breathing I had to turn down the volume majority of the movie because it stressed me out so much. The pacing is soooo slow, every scene felt stretched out 10 minutes longer than it needed to be. The first half was hard to get through, and I feel like the whole monkey section could’ve been over way quicker. Second half started getting more interesting, but then by the end of the movie I was just confused and had to look everything up afterward. The characters aren’t very likable, but they also are just not very important because there’s like 40 minutes of dialogue total in this 2 and a half hour movie. Then out of nowhere it started getting scary with random jumpscares. The plot with Dr. Floyd at the beginning just got ignored later on so I’m confused why that was even needed except to explain the mission to jupiter. I completely understand why this movie is so famous and so loved, especially for it being way ahead of its time. I’m rating it a 6/10 because I did find the visuals very striking and when the plot was interesting, it was INTERESTING. I just wish they started the second half earlier instead of focusing on the monkeys and the whole story 18 months prior. I think my rating will be higher on a rewatch but until then I wouldn’t say this was one of my favorites.

let me live in this movie
