This is my nightmare I really hope I never get famous that’s so scary
It was okay, not great I think it was a bit simple for a whole movie but pretty funny how he actually got what he wanted in the end
Overall just in a bad mood today so maybe not the best time to watch this :(
I really liked the messy mixed up timeline it kept the plot fresh and interesting but also made had to make up for the plot otherwise not being that interesting?
I really love chef films
Kind of came out thinking it was pretty good and I know it’s bad to form my opinion on the opinion of others but I think I agree with reviews that apart from their jobs and being in love with each other there wasn’t reeeeeally that much to the characters
Andrew Garfield was hot
I really liked her speech on not wanting to just be someone’s dead mum
HES SO CUTEEEEE
The way it was made felt very real and organic and he actually felt very real by the end and I wish I had a tiny friend who just hung out and did interesting stuff
I love a mixed art style like Charlie and Lola and I love Nana Connie she’s like the knitting woman from Sarah and duck I can’t explain it
I love it when dealing with grief and change is presented in such a beautiful, palatable way like spiritfarer. Nana Connie’s funeral was so sad :(
I love the way basically two people made the whole film and I think Jenny slater did a really good job his voice is so sweet

I’m sorry this just didn’t hit the spot for me, I don’t understand why amy adams was so good in it, I don’t know why viola David was Oscar nominated
Overall I think the plot was quite simple which isn’t bad by itself it just felt like it was a bit flat
I did like Philip Seymour Hoffman I thought he weirdly charming but also disgusting
Strange how they never really mentioned what was going on but your mind goes to the worst
I don’t really understand how she knew I thought he had done it in front of her before but she just guessed?

Sad that meryl isn’t there for everyone to get rid of disgusting men

This is a lot like the royal tenenbaums which I really like and I like the editing style with harsh cuts for comedic effect and I really like something about a title card for different characters and stuff like jeans story
I don’t know what to think of this because it wasn’t bad but it strangely didn’t feel great either, it felt kind of long for what the plot really was and some jokes didn’t land very well
I saw someone saying how much Jean was reduced, her only plot really was her monologue about being sexually assaulted and this was only done to have a funny moment between two lead males
THE VIBES were impeccable, the shaky camerawork and wide angle lens and low fps and change between colour and black and white and the smoke from cigarettes was so cool I love it this might be my favourite cinematography in a movie
I think the plot wasn’t as important or there wasn’t as much focus on it, but that didn’t feel as important to me this time round. I think the characters were interesting and seeing how they interact with their environment was good
So so so so beautiful, even when I was watching in really bad conditions (in two parts, audio delayed, kept freezing, had to pause and skip back etc) but I really like it
So fun and quirky and whimsy and Italian
I like that it’s so short, not every movie needs to be three and a half hours
Nuns are always so evil :( exception sister act lol
Was the cake a metaphor for sins and anti religious actions? Or was it just cake to the girls?

Oh my god this is the only movie I’ve ever sobbed at, when she says it’s yummy and never woke up again and her little ribs poking out and he’s just trying his best but he can’t save her omg
The animation was hauntingly beautiful and I loved the humanity of the fireflies, trying to find any light or comfort together in the worst situations
Fuck war and poverty and injustice and the auntie why can kids like setsuko not have fair lives
Really highlights the humanity of those in wars, they have siblings and favourite foods and shoes and clothes but we just read it as a statistic

Banging soundtrack, very slow and eerie and romantic
The middle was a bit too long and boring and it was pretty disturbing with the graphic injuries and rape, David Lynch is crazy
Kind of love Kyle maclachlan though
Frank and his fucking oxygen mask is terrifying

Watched in the cinemaaaaaa
It was pretty cute, nice
Overall I think it was cool that it was originally Hungarian (even though it’s a remake which made it less good in my eyes) but I think it might be one of the first Hungarian movies I’ve seen where it’s not been dubbed
But it was pretty cliche and a bit cringey, I didn’t find it that funny and I don’t think it was a language barrier it just was kind of cringey
Addiction and falling into madness is the saddest.
The movie itself was quite slow, not much happened but it did make me feel really uncomfortable
I don’t know what to think of this…
The fourth installation, not quite as cringey as I thought it would be but it’s pretty up there
I really don’t want to judge Renee because I’m sure she just felt the societal pressure to stay young, but I think that’s exactly what this movie reflected to the horny middle aged women in the cinema, to get a bunch of Botox and chase decades younger men to keep in touch with your youth.
I didn’t find it as sad as the girls, I thought there were quite a lot cliches like sending balloons to the dead dad.
Also how is her house so nice if she hasn’t had a job for years?
The photo montage from the first two movies did make me a little emotional, they were so young and beautiful and we should embrace our youth while we can
Arghrhhhag I don’t know what to think about this.
I thought based off the dance scene that I’d already seen that it would be more fun and cute but he was actually pretty scary
I think Al Pacino was really good, but some of the slang and phrases were sort of obnoxious and I didn’t get them, but I’m not American so maybe that’s why
It makes me a little bit uncomfortable when someone is so thirsty hahahah
A lot of reviews saying how long it was, and the middle was pretty long, but overall I think it went by quick which is a sign of a good film to me
Poor gene Hackman is dead so watched this in his memory
It’s actually appalling that people did such nasty things to black people and probably still do just because of their skin. I felt sick watching this
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Willem Dafoe this young before, but he seemed very clever
I was really excited for this…
I thought it would be right up my alley with Hungarian immigrants and interesting architecture and Adrien Brody, but my god it was not very good
I don’t understand people’s obsessions with making movies sooooooooooooooo long nowadays, I guess it seems impressive and artsy but really it just makes it boring and inaccessible.
I had to drink half a red bull before to stay awake.

Overall, I thought their accents were quite good especially when he’s shouting in the car and I think that was the most interesting element of this film but this wouldn’t be the case if I wasn’t Hungarian. But! I think it’s unrealistic that an immigrant who doesn’t speak English that well would just slip words like parameter and transcend and the such into conversation.
Heheheh gossip queens spilling the tea in their dresses
I really thought Ralph was gonna get it but alas not
Soooo manny beautiful shots in this with the yellow and the symmetry and blue ugh
I think this world is really interesting, maybe just because I don’t know anything about it, but it’s really cool to see something like this in a movie, not just marvel 1294£829102
Still don’t think it was THAT good to win best picture bafta and a bunch of Oscars, but still better than the brutalist

Pretty bad but not as bad as it could’ve been
Kimmy was somehow more bearable in this one than the first two
I think this is kind of a cheat for this list cuz I’m pretty sure i watched half with dad when we were making Eurovision spring rolls
I wonder how much all those car flip plane crash bomb explosion trick flips cost
So weird
Little ferret man Steve and ugly Ryan gosling
I HATE watching people in debt
Frances McDormand ate this up, and she won best actress three times!
So many gross uncomfortable things in this, like pushing someone’s foot in a wood chipper and blood spurting out over the snow, and someone you barely know breaking down crying in front of you and stuff like that that just made the movie feel so blehhh
CINEMA
I normally don’t really love a sci Fi but this was pretty good, with real life parallels and metaphors
Colonisation and capitalism and trump and I’m not sure what the sauce represented but love Toni Colette.
Mark Ruffalo as a trump figure was so good like he’s a really good actor and he’s been in so much, even stupid movies like 13 going on 30 and just like heaven lol
It is pretty crazy and ridiculous but I think it works pretty well like there’s so much going on but I never really felt overwhelmed

To the guy who left the cinema before the directors name even came on screen and just as the lights were halfway through turning on, you’re cray
Cute and simple
I actually really like the studio ghibli animation style, not really the people just like the background and landscapes it’s so cozyyyy
Definitely not as good as my first anime grave of fireflies but still really nice
I think it was just a little bit too simple, maybe would’ve done better as like a short film idk

This just felt so flat and quick and lifeless compared to the book
It’s kind of annoying though that I don’t know what it would be like if I hadn’t read the book
I think all the best, small, human parts weren’t in the movie, like the way Norfolk is the lost corner of the world and when they look for the music tape and they find it and when Kathy and Ruth sit drinking tea together in the attic at the cottages
It all felt so rushed, hailsham didn’t feel like a long, dreamy, nostalgic time and the cottages just felt like a pain, Ruth had nothing likeable about her while in the book she was complex and still stubborn but you love her like a sister
I don’t think I can separate it from the book, and can’t help compare the two and it doesn’t even come close
Blehhhhh this whole movie gives me shivers it’s so nasty and uncomfortable but also funny?? Like it’s such a confusing genre mix
Kevin spacey is a pretty good actor… but maybe just cuz he was actually into kids
I don’t understand a lot of the characters, the whole thing felt very surreal but I think that adds to this weird uncomfortable vibe that’s created
I’m pretty confused by it but it felt like it went by really quick which I think is the sign of a good movie
Something about the white fence and roses felt really familiar to me…
So cute and indie and it’s like real footage that someone took on a shaky camera, it feels really natural
A lot of the songs were really catchy as well
It was short too which I always enjoy but there wasn’t too much of a plot which got a bit boring after a while, maybe a little bit too much singing 😬
But the whole thing really felt like John carney’s passion project which I like the vibe of
Not as good as sing street though…
This was just so flat for me like it was just her drinking or her in Orkney or her dancing… there wasn’t really any plot kind of just like I’m an alcoholic
I thought the weird dramatic speeches about wind and tremors and being one with nature were really cringe and acting like she’s conducting the waves was really not good for me
Her Scottish accent was good though
Literally what the fuck
Pretty dark but still somehow so funny at times, the part where they shot the cat in the tree was the best
Actually really sad but I love that he made the apple pie in the end, I love when the small thing that’s been talked about through the movie finally happens
Jamming to the worst fucking take that song is so funny
Overall, a dvd I would be happy to keep
Wow he was really annoying but I guess that was the point. (it was very believable I think he really deserves the Oscar)
I really don’t know what to think of this, I guess I don’t really know cuz I haven’t lost anyone (close to me)
The line about how he doesn’t show his pain cuz it’s ordinary is really well written and well said and that whole scene is really good
It maybe felt a little bit unfinished, or no I guess I just wanted to see more and see that Kieran was gonna be ok so maybe that’s a sign that it was a good movie and performance because I actually cared about him by the end
She’s so cunty i wish I was as strong as her
I really liked this after watching but then read some reviews saying stuff like oh redemption arc for a racist homophobe? And I don’t know what to think. I do kind of get where they’re coming from and I do see how they definitely made a lot of jokes about how the police tortured black people but is it really bad that I felt sorry for him/liked him in the end? I think Sam rockwells performance was really good that he made me forget about it
I love the chiefs letters, he was actually so nice (but those other reviews would say he overlooked the torturing of a black man and we are meant to like him because he has… cancer? Which I also kind of get I don’t knowweew because I felt that he was a genuine nice guy but if I really think about it maybe not, or maybe that’s just how the police worked) I would love to get a life altering letter from woody harrelson. I actually do agree with the fact that’s it’s definitely very not good to leave your two young girls by themselves to play a game they are definitely too old for so you can go have sex with the American sister from a good year.
I think, even though it might be kind of wrong and racist, that I’m going with my gut feeling that this was a good film
Where is the queen sally Hawkins gone??
Just really weird but not really in a nice funny way kind of in a Wonka way
I don’t really have much else to say…
Didn’t find it that funny, there weren’t many lol jokes maybe 3 stars is even a bit generous 🫢
I really like seeing Wes Anderson’s style develop into what it is famously known as today. This being his second movie was much less stylised and animated.
That being said, I think when it doesn’t have the really cool beautiful shots and visuals the story sort of falls flat on its face for me…
There were some fun moments but overall I don’t think I truly understand the quirkiness and weirdness of the characters
Really nice soundtrack though
Javier Bardem with his fucking gas tank is the scariest thing it’s like the little lad gone crazy
The beginning was really tense and interesting and scary, I was clenching my butthole the whole time but then I don’t really know what happened… it got confusing and it didn’t really grasp my attention I was kind of just looking but not watching so maybe that’s actually my fault
Idk man I really thought Valerie far is and Jonathan Dayton would pull it out the bag after little miss sunshine but this was kinda boring
Men just straight up calling themselves chauvinists is crazy
Steve Carrell ate though I think he played the part really convincingly
Like it was ok… nothing special
The match itself is more interesting than the movie really was
I loved the camera work and the lighting and the way the music was almost always in the background, or the foreground in some scenes, but then cut out when it was a really dramatic monologue and you didn’t even really notice it until it restarted again
I really liked the beginning and the world of Theater and acting and stuck up actors like Edward Norton, I liked the end and the idea of when do you know if something is still acting or if it’s real, was the gun and shot wound just really good fx? How long would his body be left there for before someone realised
I also liked the satirical view on washed up actors and the movies made nowadays with avengers three billion being released.
But I didn’t really like the whole bird man thing… I didn’t like the way he had powers and it kept talking to him and his flying. It would’ve been fine if he was just talking to him but the metaphor for (I guess) becoming palatable and mainstream and popular became a little hazy when he was throwing things around with his mind. I don’t know.

Right,
I thought the beginning was pretty cliche, boring no idiot don’t go inside his house when it’s dark and stormy outside! but as it developed into a theological debate I was more intrigued. At first, being an atheist/agnostic, I saw the Mormon girls as kind of naive and I guess trapped/indoctrinated, forced into believing the teachings of this book just because they were told to. In the middle I thought they were going to be proven wrong, maybe kill themselves and die without seeing god or see the many iterations of god/Jesus/holy book and begin doubting themselves, and I almost wanted them to let go of their religion and for Hugh grant to win. But at the end, when she was exposed to the control and manipulation of choice and opinion I almost wanted her to prove him wrong. I don’t know, I thought this fluctuation of what religion becomes was interesting. I also liked the middle ground where she ended up, not truly believing but then praying for the selflessness of praying and suggesting that god may not be able to make your prayers come true or even exist, but it’s beautiful that we do it anyway. On the other hand this might show that god brought us (religious communities) together for the sole purpose of being selfless and thinking of others and thus is real. It had some interesting ideas but really felt like three movies mashed into one:
- cliche horror with the don’t go in there, he’s behind you trope in which the main girl emerges victorious but overall annoyingly set up with even more obnoxious characters
- kind of deep film about religion and whether it’s good or bad (easily indoctrinated and lack of agency or something which brings people closer)
- maybe a murder mystery with all the basements and tunnels and miniature models and ending with a big truth being uncovered
-also some body horror with the prophet woman and squelching noise
But I thought Hugh grant was pretty good, successfully pulling off a bit of a Hollywood miracle by escaping his Notting Hill character kind of like Robert Pattinson and twilight.
In the end I think it was a little bizarre for my liking.
Just the cutest little classic film with a Forrest Gump like structure about some lesbians and cannibalism. And Kathy bates

Watched in the cinema when I probably should’ve been revising… next cinema visit in may my exams will be done!!!
Anyway, I spent way too long trying to decide which one of them was Michael b Jordan and then only realised like an hour in they were both him.
I went in expecting a lot after the 98% it had on rotten tomatoes and I thought it was really beautifully shot on film with so many nice warm orangey brown shots with red lighting that was just chefs kiss with their glowy skin. Specifically that one scene with the music and dancing from the future and the past was amazing
The main vampire guy was super scary but his Irish jig slapped
Other than that…the beginning was a little boring, that one woman who started singing was pretty annoying and the idea wasn’t super original. I also don’t think it needed the part at the end where he shot all the kkk.
But for what it was, a horny vampire musical with twins and time travellers, it wasn’t even bad or laughable at all
Wow they really just walk in and out of each others houses with those little flimsy doors
I think it was cool seeing the 1960s Japanese humour but unfortunately I don’t think it matches my humour.
The little boy was super cute though and when they finally got the tv was really nice
Wow mads mikkelsen passionately dancing is something I didn’t know I needed in my life
It had that adams apples quality to it where it’s hard to watch but somehow also funny.
Like parts where they’re drinking heavily and embarrassing themselves and even dying because of alcohol were awful.
This was my first film on MUBI and my first film after exams and I think it was a good choice
Also the little boy with glasses was the cutest/saddest thing I’ve ever seen when he holds his hand omg
The main fours dynamic is really nice and natural, it felt like very positive masculinity which I always enjoy
My first Almodóvar film and maybe first real Spanish film?
I really don’t know what to think. I love an intertwining plot and strong women and the girls just finding each other but this felt maybe a little forced? Or I don’t know
The father was really confusing to me, firstly didn’t think he (she) would be a woman but maybe I should’ve seen that coming, maybe this is problematic but I really don’t see manuela or nun Penélope being with a trans woman… I’m not sure if that’s just because i guess you never really see that in media or maybe some deep seeded transphobia? But I don’t have an issue with it I just can’t imagine it. Secondly, it kind of seems like he abused manuela, by being compared to Stanley kowalski (the one thing higher english was good for) and her saying I was running away from him, but then I don’t understand why she was so ok with her at the end and being nice about their son wanting to meet her. I saw someone say that it’s her being ashamed of her son having a trans dad and not wanting them to meet, which is pretty horrible. I’m left pretty confused, maybe I’m just dumb, but I didn’t think this was that great 😬 maybe it’s also my mistake for always checking the crazy good rotten tomatoes score and then inevitably being disappointed…
Some other notes are that the bold primary reds and blues were beautiful and crazy and fun and Penelope Cruz is literally the most beautiful person ever. The son was also hot.

Mum and dad are not the people to watch this with but it’s a shame that they are so… closed minded isn’t the word, but maybe it is they just like to act like they’re not and when they actually see something like this they’re disgusted
I saw someone say it was perfect filmmaking, getting so much into such a short period of time without feeling overwhelming and I agree, it was so dense with information and stories and people but not claggy.
I’ve never seen a documentary done this way before and I think it’s amazing that there was no narration or like David Attenborough or something, but it was still cohesive and didn’t feel just like an edit.
Even though I don’t personally understand the appeal of being famous and walking down a runway and voguing (now I know) I still think it’s beautiful to think about how people flock together to find something and create a place where they feel safe. That one boy said religious people come together to pray and this is like that and I think that’s perfect.
The story of Venus xtravaganza makes me feel sick the way she was talking about her hopes and dreams and how she had already been scared before by a guy threatening to kill her and jumped out the window like it makes me feel awful how scared she must’ve been. I hope she will always be remembered through this film.

I thought this created tension really well and managed to keep hold of it and I liked the way it showed everyone’s point of view in different points of time but overall I didn’t think it was that good
I can’t really tell if this was good acting…nothing mind blowing idk
But also I watched this two days ago and I don’t really remember much about it so I think this was pretty mediocre
Kathy bates Irish accent was pretty impressive for an American but this was pretty rubbish
It was so simple, nothing was really explained well, it was pretty cliche and I really expected more from the main three ladies
Pretty forgettable
Mark McKenna was hot

Wayyy too much vulgar sex in this… probably shouldn’t have watched it with mum
I do like the vibes of this sometimes, it makes me excited to be 20 in the same way reality bites did but this was too pretentious and snobby I think

Once Eva greens boobs were in one scene they were fully exposed in EVERY scene it was too much, like it’s not artsy it’s just uncomfortable

The colouring was so frenchy
Theo was so beautiful though

Watched after going to the Tim button exhibit so I felt inspired
I thought there were some good moments and ideas like the water bed was so freaky and something about it felt really nostalgic, even though it wasn’t part of my childhood so he created the world really well
I now know he grew up in the suburbs and it reflects his childhood, growing up and being different.
But I sort of found the storyline super simple and a little boring, I had only seen little parts of it before but that’s really all I needed to see
Winona’s character arc was so fast, gave me whiplash
So surreal, so whimsical, very weird which while fun can get a bit confusing and boring at times
Obviously there were some beautiful shots (specifically the overhead slo mo in the bathroom with the nurses walking around) and some funny parts and jokes, but I think ultimately Wes Anderson is not my favourite in terms of story and I can’t really get behind the no story just vibes idea here since it is trying to tell me something.
Michael Cera was really good in this and his accent was impressive for an American
Sooooo many cameos and Benedict cumberbatch was so fucking scary, but I like it when he lets loose with stuff like this and zoolander 2 lol
Maybe I prefer Wes Anderson doing short films? But also I love Royal tenenbaums and fantastic mr fox so…
Amazing soundtrack, and I love how every day he (or someone else) carefully selected a new cassette
Personally loved the moment when he shows the woman how the toilet walls become opaque and she laughs
I think it was beautiful to see how simply he lives and how his job is something many of us view as failure but he is still so content and satisfied
It celebrates the simple things in life like the Japanese word for the sun shining through the leaves at the end
There were some parts I didn’t really get, like why he cried when his sister left, was it because he isn’t fully happy? Or his father treated him badly? And also why he was crying at the end. Where they tears of joy? His love for his routine? I’m not sure
I also don’t know if this is too American film tiktoky of me but I kind of thought the noughts and crosses storyline would develop more or something but I guess it was more natural and real this way, it’s unlikely you would actually meet the person you’ve been playing with.
The fact there was so little plot was what made it stand out and be interesting since it felt so simple and real but it also meant I did sort of find my mind wandering during it which I hope isn’t my attention span shortening
For some reason I loved the decision to make this black and white, and didn’t miss colour at all. It felt very cinematic and dramatic especially when playing around with fps, one take shots (amazing at creating and maintaining tension) and changing focus. Specifically loved the shot with the lobsters slowly falling to the bottom of the tank while they’re behind it
The scene where they’re all doing service while standing in a pool of cherry coke was really tense and well done and truly made professional kitchens seem so hellish
Also liked the commentary on Mexican immigrants and how so many jobs are done by them yet they still need to fight for just the chance to become legal.
I also liked the part where they’re talking about dreams and he goes what did he say? And the part with light the match first lol
Other than that, I didn’t really understand pedros character, I didn’t get why they pretended not to know each other at first, I didn’t understand why he talked so much and think the movie was maybe a bit drawn out, could’ve been maybe 30 mins shorter but also maybe the length of it was long on purpose to show the tiring and stressful nature of that profession
Wtf
Literally who funded this
At least twilight doesn’t take itself seriously, this was shit and I was on my phone by the end
Watched to prep for Bosnia
I think it really shows how everyone was so clueless and confused and underprepared. Even those ‘in charge’ were just waiting for orders from their superiors and it’s crazy that something as important as the lives of 20,000 people were just in no one’s hands.
Insane thag this was real, happened in the 90s and that so few people know about it, it’s like some covered up conspiracy
Watched with the girls
I don’t know if it was just the giggly vibe in the car but this was so funny? Like when Gandalf starts literally breakdancing and literally anytime that cherub is on screen is so funny
Other than that I thought the story was cool and the way jrr Tolkien made up the languages was so interesting
Will probably watch the rest because apparently the second one is where it’s at
I don’t know what’s wrong with me, this didn’t really hit the spot
I love cinema about food and the opening scene of food being lovingly prepared is more what I thought this would be about
I didn’t really understand why everyone wanted to leave home like the dad was really annoying and someone needs to take care of him when he’s doing everything for them
I also didn’t understand the eldest daughter, she lied about her first love? I guess to hide the fact she never had a boyfriend? But then why did she get all dolled up to shout at the boys who wrote the letters to her? I didn’t understand that
I also didn’t like how the dad ends up with the girl who was literally like his daughter the whole time and her daughter was like his granddaughter and everyone thought he was gonna end up with her mum. Made me feel weird cuz I thought he was just a cute old man
I feel so dumb like I thought this would be really good and the vibes would make me feel all summery but what just happened??
It was so long and nothing was really explained, it all felt super ‘deep’ but I didn’t understand it
I liked the idea of it, delving into archaeology and classics and Italian culture it seemed like a really fresh idea when I read the synopsis
There were some cute moments like when italia was dancing and when all the kids with lice were running around
The montages of the dead girlfriend were just so cliche and annoying
I don’t know why that’s put me in such a bad mood I had high hopes for this I guess that was my mistake
Cinema watch
I thought there was a really good use of music and sound (boots poem and Delilah and soundscape in general) and some very very cool super dynamic camerawork like when they shot them zombies and the movement froze with blood pouring out but the camera swivelled around or when the zombies were sliding down the wall and the camera tilted with them, which was similar to train spotting
The story was pretty classic zombie movie which is already not original to begin with but it’s also a sequel which I didn’t really like, not everything needs a second, third, fourth part but I guess they left this pretty open too with the introduction of jimmy
Some of it was super frustratingly dumb like why would you leave the island in the first place and why would you leave with only your sick mother when you barely survived the first time??
The red night vision and the deer and the glowing eyes were really scary. Mainly when they were on the mainland the first time and ran into the alpha (big dick) and the silhouettes were really spooky
Ralph fiennes character was so cool and clever I loved him and was so relieved when he rocked up all covered in iodine
My second liked documentary on this list!
This had a lot of less interesting camera work and editing but the subject matter was really interesting.
The culture in Japan is so different and that made it really cool to watch this
Jiro radiates cute old man energy, super passionate about his work and laughs wheezing at his own jokes but also seems like such a dick. I think ‘convincing’ your child to not go to uni and instead devote their lives to making sushi which is your passion is really shitty. Also the very stern exterior and barely ever being home i think it must’ve sucked having him as their dad
I don’t know why I just love movies about food even though I’m not a huge foodie myself but something about people loving preparing beautiful food and slicing juicy tuna like it’s jelly 🤤🤤 hits the spot
Wtf
I thought the start was good, maybe the message and idea of the pressure on women to remain perfect was a little shoved down your throat instead of elegantly masked, but overall I liked the playful overexaggeration and satirical nature of the world
Then once she became a really old lady it just became stupid and I guess this was what they wanted, further adding to this intense satire but it just felt annoyingly dumb to me and nasty to watch that blob of flesh waddling around
There was a bit too much gory body horror with gushy sound effects for my liking but that wouldn’t have bothered me if the plot was good
Also I know the really old stage was probably over exaggerated too but it felt kind of rude how they presented her naked body as something super disgusting. I’m not saying it wasn’t a bit unpleasant but why should we empower the 50 yr olds and then laugh at an 80-90yr olds saggy boobs. Either do them both or neither
I like the message of anti anti aging but I prefer more of a peaceful, content old woman perspective on the matter
Weird order to watch years before days but I don’t think it reaaaally matters
I liked the eeriness of London being silent and empty and I think that would actually really freak me out.
I think the design of the zombies was way more cool and sophisticated in the sequel, obviously Danny Boyle also has a much larger budget but I preferred some of the visual effects in the second one.
Found this a bit boring at times, it was just kind of a normal zombie film?
I did like Brendan gleesons character his death was unlucky and also the portrayal of the sad reality that men would definitely harass and rape the only two women (girls) in the camp because they feel they deserved it and it’s their right to continue civilisation
Why did she scream QUIET lol
Wtf again
Might be accidentally working my way through Danny boyles filmography
Very pleasantly short but so many weird things happened, kind of in a funny way so forgivable
Like why did the police just watch him with a knife sticking out his chest??
I wish they would’ve just called the police the first time round, the money was definitely not worth it
Ewan mcgregor is really good at being super annoying
The first half hour of this film kind of sucks… or is just very slow and kind of weird and meaningless
The end with the feast was obviously the best part, I really liked the idea behind that and the stubbornness of the poor/uneducated? back then that they don’t even dare acknowledge that the food was good and the contrast between them and the general, who is clearly more open minded and well travelled. I don’t really get why Babette chose to spend all her money on the food, but I liked the plot twist of her being the head chef of a fancy Parisian restaurant
People were falling in love with them after glancing at the backs of their heads???
Woooow Agnes varda is my new idol, she’s so creative and smart and comfortable with herself and philosophical
She explores so many ideas and themes in this documentary: old age and mortality, food waste and the environment, anti capitalism, poverty and the homeless, art and the collection of rubbish, but it never felt too dense or overwhelming. The way she built the story felt very thorough, as if she explored every facet of gleaning and encountered so many amazing people. Even gleaning herself as she collects small snippets of information and people’s life for herself
I also loved the personal element of this and I felt like I really got to know her, not only in her conversations and questions but with some of the parts she embedded of herself. I really liked the whimsy of her admiring the mould in her house and framing it, redefining art in kind of a silly way.
She films her hand too, zooming in on her wrinkles which at first I found kind of funny, like am I really watching a home video of a woman’s wrinkles? But then it felt very personal, not only is she not hiding them but she’s proudly showing them and exploring herself as she ages, accepting her mortality more and more as she learns about the topic in parallel.
I didn’t really understand the part with her catching the lorries, I guess it’s about the way they’re carrying the food which has left behind tons of produce just left to waste even though many people are in need of it
I still love her and her creative process but I think this was a bit too all over the place for me
There were too many names and places and French words and people and I just sort of got lost.
There were some really nice parts, I liked when all the trapeze artists were on the beach and she joined their line, she gives very cute old lady vibes but the way she is still super original and creative is so inspirational.
I think it got a bit too jumbled and messy in the end since there was no true topic to tie it all together and it must be a lot easier to understand if it’s your memories
I also really liked when she held up the mirrors to show the people who helped her set it up
Oscar winner for a reason
The animation style did look a bit like ai hehehe but I liked the water and the way nature was so nicely represented
At first I thought the story line was about humans ruining nature and displacing animals, but I think that was naive and it’s really about life and the paths you take and people you meet on the way. It kind of gave spiritfarer with them all travelling on this little boat, fighting and helping each other.
I think the dogs represented bullies, aimlessly gaining up on one person to intimidate them but use you when they need help. The golden retriever I think was annoying and pretty stupid and relied on everyone else for help but proved his loyalty in the end.
The whale was like her guardian angel, always helping her a lot when she was going to die or get lost and that’s why it was so sad when it was dying (not really sure what that meant? Like it can’t be good for everyone or something idk)
The bird was pretty cool I like the way it was pretty mysterious and kept kind of helping her. It was so sad when he protected her and then got his wing broken and was abandoned. I think their friendship of being the smartest on the boat and always looking out for each other and getting each other food was beautiful. The bird was so smart, always looking after the others and steering the boat
The capybara was sort of just there for comedic relief but really it was his boat to begin with so maybe all that sleeping has made him wise
The lemur was kind of just weird. But it was really sad when the dogs broke his mirror and all hanged up on him, hated them after that.
Overall really liked it but I guess my mind was just wandering a little bit.
I thought a silent film would feel really boring and there would be no storyline but it’s crazy how much nonverbal communication and cues there were/we pick up on
Hmmm
I thought I would really like this cuz I love the idea of sonder and intertwining storylines and how much a simple encounter can impact someone’s life and o really did like that part, or the structure of the film and how it was told through these small interviews but it felt a bit aimless. I guess that’s the point, to reflect her wandering free self but idk I did get a little bored at some parts
It felt like she didn’t have any goals and I just can’t relate to that. Like she wasn’t travelling to somewhere and she wasn’t aiming for anything, she didn’t even want to work when the philosophical goat farmer gave her land for free.
I feel like she was to different from me and distant for me to truly appreciate her character. Like she never said thank you, she was always so direct and kind of rude, maybe I should take more inspiration from her.
Assoun was so nice. I feel like almost everyone was so generous and clearly touched by her. I don’t think that’s realistic either.
So much fun, felt like a fever dream
It’s very unserious and silly, almost masking the message, but idk
So many super catchy super iconic scenes and songs but the ending is crazy I never knew that happened!!
I didn’t really understand Sheila’s character she was kind of a bitch and acted like she liked Berger but then wanted to see Claude and kissed him??
I think I missed the message a little bit and only retrospectively realise how much it made fun of the army and war and points out the pointlessness of it.
That’s sooo sad he died just to give Claude a few precious minutes with his friends
Some really funny moments too like woof daschund lol and when he can’t find anywhere to stand at attention
Liked how this was funny ish? Tom cruise had some really good moments and I liked their pushover and aggressive friend relationship
Better than I thought it was gonna be and definitely pretty original, but I think there comes a point when the action film just needs to end Tom cruise needs to stop running and it maybe became a little boring by the end
A pretty nice safe option
The grey hair was a nice touch it made him look super evil

I liked his character arc, maybe it was a little predictable but I think it was done in a nice tender way and I think it’s illustrated nicely by him knocking on her coffin and describing the scenes to her. It did feel kind of weird though, like he was mad at her cuz she didn’t leave the house to him and then forgave her when she gave him money
Not sure what to think about the whole ‘all they want is your time it doesn’t matter why you give it to them’ philosophy. That feels really insensitive but I guess if you don’t make them feel the negativity then it’s ok? But your doing it for really wrong reasons but everyone is probably inherently selfish
I think it the end was a little long and drawn out, I was starting to get kind of bored but I actually didn’t find the end that sad, I think it was a beautiful celebration of life and the passing down of traditions is such a nice thing
I’ve already seen the start of the series which I think kind of spoiled it for me, I would’ve liked to see this knowing nothing going in
I love something about movies set on trains they’re so fun and the I love seeing all the different design of the different carriages, kind of wish we saw more of that and like where the rich people live
Tilda swinton was amazing, the accent, the teeth, the hair it was so good I hated her
I also really liked Jamie bell in this, he didn’t quite look 17/18 but I was still pretty sad when he died
There were a lot of super cool shots, obviously the night vision stood out but I also liked the Aquarium tunnel.
Not sure about the ending…
I liked the twist that Gilliam was working with Wilford the whole time but I didn’t really understand what the very end meant. The radical side won and the train was blown up, but the only two survivors will inevitably freeze and die in less than an hour if the other guys arm froze in 7 mins.
But the polar bear represented hope for the future? And that nature will always persevere? Not sure I think that was a bit of a let down
Cirkó Gejzir mozi
It’s so weird I’ve never even heard of this film when there are so many super good famous actors in it
I think this was probably the best I’ve seen cillian Murphy (gonna annoy all the film bros hahahah) like I think he does the kind of laughable character really well and his eyes are crazy even in black and white!!
I think the plot was a little weak, but it sort of seemed like short story turned play and really relied on the acting, which I don’t think is really a bad thing
Super dialogue based and really about human connections which I always appreciate
Also I love down low kind of warped shots like when cillians hand is on the bath ans it’s a close up of it but he’s also in the back and when they’re playing all the vinyls
Some funny moments, but others were pretty cringe
Music was good
I think the cinema experience really added to the vibe
Even though I watched this in German with Hungarian subtitles and almost cried over not being able to understand dialogue that was more than one line long, I did quite like it…
It feels shit to have missed the last part where she comes to her conclusion of robot love which was literally the whole point of the movie??? And I feel like such a dumb bitch cuz I missed the whole point and just basically can’t even add it to this list cuz of that…
Dan stevens was good, can’t believe he learned German or maybe already knew some idk, I really liked the like jazz club bar thing they are at in the beginning and Sandra hullers character was pretty good. Love her primary colours.
It was pretty funny when they found out she was a robot
Overall can’t really give my opinions on it cuz I’m too stupid so I didn’t even get the message so I’m not even gonna rate it but I liked the parts I understood
This sucks
It’s super millennialy cringe humour where everything was a huge cliche with no original ideas, it was kind of like how many cliches can we cram in there
It didn’t even have the cool teen early two thousands charm that the first one has
I would say what the fuck but honestly saw from the Netflix thumbnail that this was gonna be shit
So cliche and American and unfunny
Maybe I didn’t expect he would have cancer…? It was obvious the brother was dead but I didn’t think he was gonna die too just cuz he seemed completely healthy which I don’t think is normal for someone with cancer
I don’t think the final parts were all bad and the debate of suffer in hospital prolonging your time or live freely and let the illness kill you could be and probably has already been made into a much better movie and I think it was kind of insensitive to throw it in at the end of this shitty movie

The two main ladies were amazing, first time seeing either of them act I think and especially in their native language it felt so natural.
A lot of shots viewed from far away also gave the film a very natural feeling as if I was just a bystander watching this happen from far away. But there were also so many close ups of just their faces to invite you into intimate moments
I thought the story was really unique and explored the uncomfortable topic of a mother daughter connection who both experience hostility towards each other. The scenes from her childhood like when she would be really excited to bring her mum some tea when she would stop practicing and then she would just send her away we’re really pretty sad and made me so glad my upbringing wasn’t like that. But it’s also not fair to expect a mother to drop everything in her own life as soon as she has children, but I guess that wasn’t her only issue, even when she was there it was awful for everyone. I also don’t think it was fair to blame her for helena getting sick that was just a bit far
It didn’t really feel that connected to it though, like mum rewatched and ordered an Ingmar Bergman biography since she was so invested in it. I felt like it was interesting but not amazing since I didn’t feel personally connected. Maybe when I’m older.
For now I don’t even know if I should rate this, because 3.5 feels so low in comparison to everyone else and at the end of the day I know it isn’t a mid movie and it is interesting but I don’t think I enjoyed it that much/thought about it for ages/it had much impact on me. I will definitely remember it for it’s unusual, low key style which is so different from American movies of the same time and for it’s acting, but I don’t think the message really touched me as it does to others who truly love this film

The long, quiet scenes really capture the stillness and unforgiving cold of the landscape, with the black and white only making it seem more bleak and depressing
I think it’s my nightmare to be sick, feverish, shot, unable to walk, yet needing to crawl, to run, to escape and fight. Although this isn’t real, it did feel like a documentary or like found footage and obviously represents millions of real people
The main guys face has such a harrowing effect, his eyes and stare seem so genuinely numb and tired and I think the whole premise was reliant on that performance
I read a couple reviews, clearly written by people way smarter than me, comparing this to Jesus and Judas and how after he was about to kill himself and came legitimately face to face with death, he became Christ-like, unafraid to sacrifice himself and save the others for his beliefs. Meanwhile the other man seems more confident at the beginning, he’s smart and cunning and prone to survival and finding solutions, but he’s scared of death which is why he always finds a way to avoid it. Similarly to Judas his punishment is to be stuck with the guilt of his sins and betrayal, screaming for release.
This was so uncomfortable to watch, fuck war, fuck the capitalist billionaires rooting the poor against each other, fuck genocide. Them crawling around trying to get out and help each other really brought nedzad to mind, and I feel sick to my stomach again. I hate this world we live in that creates societies which allows things like this to happen. I am feeling very pessimistic now.
The little girl being given a step so she can reach her noose… truly sick.

Wanted to watch finchers version cuz I didn’t even know it was a Swedish film first. Even though I think he could’ve done something good with it it just makes me dislike it automatically a little bit… like you always need to remake the exact same thing to make it more palatable for Americans, and copying a movie not even just a book feels like copying not appreciation to me.
Anyway I watched the original clearly
I think the storyline starts off a bit confusing before you get into the rhythm of things but by the end you’re really into it.
The disgusting corruption of Lisbeth’s guardian and her rape was so disturbing to watch and I’m so glad this was a movie in which the character had the strength and resources to escape that situation, sadly in real life it’s not always the case
I really liked the use of photographs and the slow fps playing of Harriet looking at her killer, the discovery of the image the couple behind her took etc.
I thought it was a little long… some parts in the middle were a little too drawn out
I also didn’t really love their ‘romantic’ relationship, it felt weird to me kind of because they barely talked and Lisbeth was lesbian/queer in earlier scenes? Like them suddenly having sex to me felt like any man and any woman who spend time alone together are obviously gonna fall in love, which isn’t always the case especially cuz they like didn’t know anything about each other.
I thought the mystery/crime storyline was pretty interesting though
This brings up questions that are still so relevant to this day and comments on gender roles in society, obviously a bit stuck in time but I think it’s charmingly 70s with the vibes and outfits/flares
Dustin Hoffman and the little boy had really good chemistry I think there were some moments that felt like they were actually father son, like the scene were he eats the ice cream and he gets really annoyed at him and the saddest scene where the boys crying and he says that the mum left because he was bad 😭😭😭
I was sad to hear that apparently Dustin Hoffman was creepy on set, touched and slapped meryl Streep cuz he seems so cute and nice, maybe partly because he’s so small hahaha
Honestly don’t really have any notes, I think it creates such a difficult issue and so perfectly because it you really sympathise with everyone.
Should a woman feel stuck in the role of motherhood when men leave relationships and children all the time? Should she give up her own life for her child?
But also if the mother left and the fathers been doing well without her why should she be able to swoop in when she feels like it?
Acting was amazing, the music was also really good, very classical mostly but I also liked the guitar theme as well

It was fine…
Audibly gasped when Richard e grants picture was on screen that was a nice surprise
The whole thing felt very stupidly scripted and unnatural kind of like a series of unfortunate events but with old people
Poor pierce really gave that accent his all but just always fell short
Celia imries cute though I can’t wait for her to be on celebrity traitors
Some parts of this were hilarious, Toni Colette’s tongue escaping her mouth every five seconds hahahha, the whole marriage where the guy looks terrified the whole thing just felt like a weird fever dream, why did she change her name to mariel???
There is also something so funny about mouthing dancing queen with a sad look on your face
It felt kind of like a kids movie like all the bright colours and big emotions and girls who are mean are really mean but I did kind of like it
Keeping as a guilty pleasure hehehe
I did watch this is Hungarian which I think made me like it less but I don’t think that was my only issue with it
I was expecting a lot with the whole five Oscar’s thing but it fell short. I usually like a movie travelling through time (Kramer vs Kramer which I just watched) but this was too much like 30 years difference.
I don’t know if I’m just too dumb for complex emotions or if it was the language barrier but I felt like everyone’s relationship was so weird? Like the mum and daughter half the time they were fully screaming at each other but then also giggling and talking when they were together idk I guess showing the power of that bond that they can really get through anything. But the mum and Jack Nicholson were the same, like they hate each other?? And then impulsively have sex and suddenly they’re in love but then they break up? And they’re together again? Like ok people are complex and weird but I didn’t even really feel romantic or sexual tension between them it just felt like hate and then love and hate again? But maybe should've watched in English
The cancer thing just felt really predictable, or it was obvious she was gonna die but no one even really seemed that sad?
Not my cup of tea but there were some funny moments and both of the women got the frustrated screaming at children thing completely right
Lol pretty bad don’t even really remember what it was about
Cringe fanfic type storyline
Julia Roberts hair is pretty cool tho

I think watching the movie I was a little bored by the middle section, sort of slow with a very thin storyline but after reading some reviews I like it more… which I don’t know if is fair if my opinion is shaped by other people’s opinions.
The music and camera techniques in this were amazing, the contrast between super hazy yellow summery shots of Kirsten Dunst vs the cold blue wide angle when she’s left on the football field was impeccable. I didn’t know air made the soundtrack that’s so cool and wish tiktok hadn’t ruined it
The whole time I felt a little like wow Sofia Coppola really had a crush on Kirsten Dunst but after reading some reviews I learned that was completely the point. By showing the ethereal girls from the boys’ perspectives, they became nothing more than objects to have crushes on and as much as they like to think they were getting to know them and helping them they were still joking about how much they’d like to touch them. I wish I was smart enough to understand that by myself
I do think the sort of tiktok girls girl Alice type people have ruined this film, making the whole you’ve never been a thirteen year old girl playground lover thing a romanticised audio to make downtown girl edits to, and I think that’s really disappointing. I don’t understand trips character at all, he claims to be so in love with lux even decades later when he’s an alcoholic if some sort? and yearns for her to Al green but leaves her out in the field after having sex with her??? Wtf??
I really wish I enjoyed watching this more because after doing some light research I have found the message to be really cool and interesting, and learning that Sofia Coppola directed this in a dress was so cunty I need to watch more of her movies.
Something about this also made me feel really uncomfortable, like far behind and loserish that I’m not having sex or have a boyfriend or even kissed anyone and lux is meant to be 14. That probably sucks of me and really makes the point clear that teenage girls are always wanting to grow up faster than they should and comparing themselves to others. Like when I really think about it I wouldn’t want to be sneaking men up on my roof and having sex with them or getting left out in a field but for some reason I watch this and I feel like that’s what I should be doing, even though it’s clear that she’s mentally unwell and looking for validation from any source she can find.
Maybe I would like it more on a second watch to really catch all the little details and meanings
So much hype around this but I think it was just ok.
Sandra huller is really good, I think the parts with them fighting specifically were really strong and she just seemed like this complex lady
I’m not gonna lie, I am writing this review a few days later and I don’t really have a vivid memory of what happened in this which I think is kind of the sign of a not very good movie…
The beginning with the music was really good at creating tension and just pushing things a little bit past what’s comfortable kind of the requiem for a dream where uncomfortable scenes are shown for just too long to really push their effect, I think that’s what was happening here with the music, really making us sit in it’s annoyingness for so long and really become angry at the husband.
It was just really long sort of for no reason and I don’t think and hope that that’s not me being impatient and short attention spanned
The lawyer looked like a praying mantis with incredible hair
Maybe it is an age thing like mum said that stuff like couples growing apart, managing having a child and fighting a lot is just not really something I can relate to… but neither is Kramer vs Kramer but that was banging

September Cinema
This was just really silly
I think this whole situation could’ve been avoided if they weren’t weird helicopter parents who need to stay at home for their 12 year old kids… like they defo could’ve both worked lol
I didn’t really like the thing about them becoming really sporty it was kind of just like what’s going on
I did like the vibes of two good actors just like wanting a nice little break and having the funds to film something fun
Kate McKinnon is really good at making me feel super uncomfortable but I think she had some of the funniest lines in the film like if you ever need a shoulder or an inner thigh to lean on 🤢
There was a point where it went past trying to be a normal film, maybe it was the grating the toe warts into the pasta, where I kind of got on board and let myself go and enjoyed the silliness
The dialogue was pretty stiff and annoying, their American kids were really annoying and some parts were a really hard watch

The part with zendaya was so fucking funny like she is the most random person ever hahahahah

Sean penn was pretty hot in this
That’s about the only thing I can say…this felt super mediocre and forgettable. I also didn’t really get the ending, like he killed the wrong guy and then Laura linney was just like it’s ok babe cuz u loved ur daughter so much?? And the police didn’t care cuz they’re friends and he was mentally unwell anyway??
It didn’t really make sense why those kids killed her either.
It was too long for how simple the story was
Tim Robbins was really good though, it must be the worst feeling to be scared of your partner
Australians love Abba is the moral I have learned
Terence stamp was really good, i didn’t know it was him until he spoke more cuz his voice is so nice and recognisable but I think he did a pretty good job and being very feminine
People now would probably be mad that they chose three straight men for this but I don’t really mind
I think the plot was a bit thin compared to how long it was and the parts with the Thai wife were super racist so didn’t love that
I probably wouldn’t watch it again but it was good to find out that Priscilla is actually the bus lol
Steven Spielberg is literally the most American person in the world so I did kind of go into this thinking it would be a bit too focussed on heroes and villains and I do think it kind of was.
One thing he did well was the timing, the three plus hours didn’t feel crazy long to me, i wasn’t really bored or anything and didn’t even need to snack during it, which felt a bit inappropriate to do anyways. He also obviously had a huge budget to be able to hire all those extras and did a good job at showing the huge scale of the holocaust, but it does kind of feel like something you watch in like s3 history to get an idea of what happened, it wasn’t particularly deep or poignant and was sort of one toned? I saw a couple reviews that said Spielberg seemed like he was interested in making a hit film, a moneymaker, instead of a true representation of the horrors that happened and that is what it kind of feels like to me. It was never going to be as deep as some other war films like the ascent because it’s made to be palatable to the American public. I also saw some reviews that said it was trying to create hope and show the ‘bright side of the holocaust’ by focussing on the 1000 people who survived instead of zooming out to the millions who died. I don’t necessarily agree with this since I think making movies about and discussing the fringe cases is what makes them interesting sometimes and didn’t really find anything wrong with the sadness it was presented with.
In the end, i feel like people are scared to criticise movies about such harrowing events and it doesn’t actually make them difficult to since you are naturally empathetic and horrified but i think if this movie was made with the same cinematography, same actors, same length, soundtrack whatever but with a different main plot it would’ve gotten lost in the void years ago. It seems like it’s not trying to say anything other than this happened, it was horrible… Schindler tried his best.
Not bad but nothing really special in this

Didn’t expect an 11 year age gap…15 and 26 is a kind of crazy
Nice and cute, very autumnal and girly. They’re chemistry was really good they actually felt like a weird little family
Thought there would be more of a mermaid thing lol but I guess it was just that one costume
I wish my hair was like Winona ryders at the end of this film

Some of the mother daughter stuff was kind of weird and why she just ran away to that random family??

It was pretty funny when she cut her sandwiches into stars and that all their food is kebabs and starters hahahah

I wasn’t going to add this onto my list since I didn’t really understand it and when, especially for the second time, I don’t get a movie I prefer to act like I’ve not watched it than pretend I am capable of critiquing it since I feel like I’m not eligible to have an opinion, like the godfather. But alas I started this movie once and rewatched and finished it last night and I still didn’t like it. I always feel so stupid when a movie gets such high ratings and then I don’t like it, but I think I need to stop thinking somethings wrong with me and accept that this movie is not my cup of tea and that’s that.
It was sooo long, they just kept saying names and abbreviations and meeting people who I sort of lost the plot of who they were. There was kind of no reason to go into this scandal in so much detail that makes it impossible to follow.
I liked the vibe they created of the offices, like noisy, busy typing and running around and the shots they did a lot with someone working in the foreground and the other side in the background is everyone doing something like crowding around the tv, I’ve never really seen that before even though this is so old.
Bring back Dustin Hoffman with long hair and flares!
Pretty mediocre I think…maybe even on the worse side
Halloweeeeeeny I do really like Tim burtons style but I think it’s too reliant on his style and the storyline was kind of mediocre. The corpse bride is really selfless and mature, the way she was able to put aside her wishes and see she was hurting someone else was really beautiful, they honestly just should’ve been a throuple. I don’t have much else to say, I think the set design was really cool and I love all the swirls. Nice and short and to the point
Woooow absolutely not what I was expecting It started out pretty serious with a terrorist revolutionary group freeing Mexican immigrants and then it just got weirder and sillier Having all these white supremacists and immigrants and black people all mixed together felt very topical, and making the Christmas whatever group seem so ridiculous and the members seem so stupid was the directors ‘subtle’ way of showing his disapproval for the current situation in America. Annoyingly leonardo dicaprio was pretty good in this, there were some genuinely funny moments like when he couldn’t remember the code on the phone and when he kept smoking the tiniest joint even though they were coming for him and he fell out a tree! Omg It was kind of satirical, or really overdone in a silly way like Sean penn walking in the desert with a bloody face coming out a car crash like the terminator only to say he was reverse raped by a semen demon cuz he’s too powerful, like that is ridiculous. I thought the part with the hilly road was a really cool idea and created a super tense scene but it was a bit long I was almost getting motion sick watching it for so long. A lot of the music was really fucking annoying after a while like in punch drunk love as well, I guess that’s the point to make you feel really irritated and on edge but it just feels kind of like a missed opportunity for some really good song choices, like if Tarantino had chosen the music there could’ve been some bangers. I wish they played the song they kept referencing before the credits cuz I didn’t know it was an actual song I thought they just made it up. I think the most impressive thing was that it was 2hrs 45 mins which I immediately was kind of annoyed by like it feels like a label to impress film bros when actually youre just diluting the goodness of your movie and the message youre trying to send, but this felt like it went by pretty fast which I think is the signpost of a good movie, if I’m not thinking about snacks or dinner or homework or drama or the time, as a teen in the tiktok era, I think that it must be something pretty good
Imelda Staunton is so cute and small and her crying for doing literally nothing wrong but trying to help people is so sad, I wish she knew now that it was legal I don’t really understand how soapy water gives you an abortion but I don’t even want to and I’m so glad women now have the chance to get it done safely. I guess not everywhere though… I don’t really have much else to say, the story and message was interesting and how it shook up her family life which seemed so perfect and wholesome before. I’m really glad I’m not a woman in the 50s it really seems horrible, I’m happy I can worry about my maths test instead
Too weird for me I feel like the only good scene was when she was covered in blood but even that was super long Stephen king is crazyyyy Everyone was just slapping each other left right and centre! Don’t really have much else to say, the mum was also super weird and I didn’t understand that blonde boy who asked her out it was like he was in love with her or something??
This was actually kind of scary, like when that fucking doll rode in on the scooter thing and when the guy was in the little girls room! I think after seven it is kind of unoriginal and just felt kind of bad compared to that I don’t love like body horror and gore as much as it was prevalent in this It felt a bit drawn out, but I did like the like waking up and finding out where you are based on that throughout the movie plotline. Some of the camera techniques were pretty cool I love when directors aren’t afraid of speeding up or slowing down footage to make it feel tense or hectic. Definitely won’t be watching the rest of these though, if even the first one is just passable then I wonder how good the fifth one is. I actually didn’t think the twist was that bad the way he was actually the man on the floor but it was never really explained why he’s so psycho and I wish we got to see more of him and his psyche like we do with Kevin spacey in seven Mum is not a good person to watch horror movie with
November cinema, and the first entry i'm writing on my new computer! This started off a little boring... I thought it was just a movie kind of about nature and kind of about the danger of echo chambers and manosphere-esque content but it turned into so much more. The morning routine has been done in films sooooo many times, and I guess this was unique with the eerie music and panning shots and her fucking heels!! so tall! but I guess it was also kind of basic. I only started to get really into it when she was kidnapped and then when Don sadly shot himself, that moment really got me. I feel like that was the intention, especially since the police officer was killed straight after too, it was meant to really shock the viewer and let them know that this is the beginning of the end. I really bought into her just double/triple bluff thing (lol traitors) and I think it was a pretty smart move to make her actually be an alien since it felt too obvious to be true. Some of the very surreal black and white midway shots were a bit much, but I also did like the little sprinkle of yorgos at his wildest, since the rest did feel pretty tame for him. This genre is weirdly popular at the moment since it was pretty similar to one battle after another and very similar to mickey 17. I want to watch the korean film too now which it was inspired by, cuz i'll be pretty disappointed if it's like the same movie. I think the middle was a bit lengthy, but it was also needed to make the whole shes defo not an alien thing stick, so i don't know what could've been done about that but I think that was a little long. Jesse Plemons was really good, I did feel super bad for don the whole time, like he's just so innocent and fully getting gaslit and castrated! His death was really unexpected for me. The ending with all the carefully 'choreographed?' dead people was very effective, I really liked all those and the beauty of all of those shots was so quiet and eerie. Not sure if emma stone's acting was incredible, it was definitely good but she's not actually an alien so it's like of course she can convince all of us that she's not an alien because she's not one? like if her character was real and could do the i am an alien but I'm unconvincingly lying about being an alien to trick my kidnappers then that would be impressive! I think the message changes from manosphere (maybe not changed, just altered a little bit) to much more climate change/people are evil and the bees will outlive us all. I'm hesitant to give this a mediocre score cuz it was pretty wild, but thinking back on it I really don't think I enjoyed the beginning thaaaat much, so I think I will have to give it a 3.5. lol this review is shit literally what does any of it mean. This movie was unique, and i say that before i watch the original so maybe i'll be very quickly proven wrong, but i have faith in yorgos
AGNESSSS WHYYY I weirdly still love her as a person but i think the gleaners was just the peak of her life. Watched this on my birthday because i kind of thought a varda documentary would be a guaranteed win... but i was wrong. I do think there were some good parts, the tai chi in front of the whale, the mural of god being a guy from a western, the quote about the roses WHICH I CANT FIND ANYWHERE even though it was so beautiful and poetic. Obviously the murals were amazing, so much vibrancy. I really didn't like the guy who whispered the name or location of the mural every time, i found it so annoying and creepy. What really was the downfall of this is that it was kind of just boring... its not even an hour and a half but i felt myself thinking about other things, becoming disconnected from the story she was telling, unlike in the gleaners. I also watched without subtitles which made it worse.
I saw someone say the story starts and ends with love, and that's pretty beautiful. I really love the beginning, with the list of what they love about each other, it had a very heartfelt and wholesome energy and a little Amelie whimsy which I always appreciate. I'd want for someone to know me that completely. Shooting on film really shows, all the colours are so rich and deep, but still natural and the compositions of some of the shots were reflective of the characters' emotions and feelings towards one another but still not pretentious. I specifically liked when they're getting the orange subway back to their house, standing just apart from each other. Both actors just felt so natural, together and as themselves, which made them feel really complex and real. It also added to the whole "I don't know who to side with thing" and made it even more painful to watch when they both started turning on each other. There are so many scenes that are really tense and awkward, like when that woman from the court is just watching them have dinner and there's so much pressure on the boy to not say anything bad, it's a lot like kramer vs kramer in that way where the dad and the son have a bit of a rocky relationship where you're always just waiting for one of them to explode. It's so hard to choose a side! I agree with both, i disagree with both but I think ultimately that's what the movie wanted to illustrate, that sometimes it's not even just drifting apart since they still both love each other, it can just be communication problems and what feels like the universe working against you. I did feel for the dad when the boy kept pushing him away, he was honestly kind of annoying at times. But that must feel awful travelling all that way to see your son only for him to say he doesn't even want to see you. But also to be fair, if he cheated on her then he deserves it. I feel like the cheating was kind of overlooked. He was the least likeable when he said that he could've been with so many women in his 20s but he wasn't for her, and i guess when he said he wishes she was dead... Still it had a lot of funny moments, like the monopoly and (probably not meant to be funny but) him cutting himself and then lying on the floor, the rehearsal of the serving. Well done to Noah Baumbach. Also the mum and laura dern were so fucking annoying.
i'm strangely really going against the grain here, but I don't think this was that good! Maybe I really was just tired and maybe watching it in two parts really didn't help, but I think the whole thing was just kind of boring. I didn't really understand why there was an evil priest? like how did the others not leave the church too especially after he was so horrible to all the newcomers? I guess it's like a cult... maybe commentary on politicians today, especially when Cy wanted to make him president. I think it was kind of annoying having a weird mix between something funny and quirky with characters who are very much like in clue and try to mix it with deep, philosophical speeches on faith and religion. I really don't think they fit together and it made it feel like it was just trying to be deep when actually it fell a bit flat. Honestly, it's the next day and I don't remember much of it... which is always a bad sign. No one was speaking in their own accents and i missed it :( maybe it's just cuz I know what Josh Oconnor sounds like but his american accent just sounds so forced. and same with andrew scott. I don't really mind this sequelwise, I don't feel like it's a rerererun to make money off of one good idea, since I do like that it's just blanc stepping into different stories but i don't think they need to make many more of these since the last two have kind of been flops I think
After watching marriage story i was really excited when i saw Noah Baumbach directed and wrote this, especially with old george clooney in it. I do like when older actors kind of take themselves less seriously and take on more freeing roles. But this was ass too! Even though some of the scenes were interesting, the opening scene with the bustle of a movie set was really cool and beautifully done and the lighting was immaculate, the rest of it was just boring. It felt like the plot was just quite weak, but also trying to be really deep about ageing and memory and experiences and maybe his "mid" life crisis. The daughter was kind of weird, poor Billy crudup's hair was a mess and I'm not sure if it was my fault and i was just thinking of a lot of different things, but my mind was wandering so much, this didn't really grab my attention
I watched this by myself, and I think that was the right choice. It was in hungarian, so I think some of the little nuances were a bit lost on me, but i got the gist of it. I really don't think i'm messed up enough or fluid enough for this. I just felt confused and uncomfortable, which i know was the point, but I don't think I liked it very much. These movies are always so difficult! because i don't really understand them, i feel weird and uncomfy and then all the reviews are really good and say that this director is so good at making them check how much longer there is left of a movie. So was it good or bad? I think i'm a bit too far removed from the world of sex and sexuality to fully understand this, and thankfully the element of self harm and mutilation too. It felt a bit like autumn sonata with the uneasy mother daughter relationship, and a bit like dead ringers with all the kind of tense, difficult to watch sex scenes. I don't think this is the movie for me but I can still see why it may be for some people, which makes it so hard to rate. The boy felt a bit all over the place for me, they both did. At first it seemed like he was truly in love with her, and then he was calling her disgusting but then she sucked him off and he was fine? and then she threw up and he said she stank even after he had just said i love you again?? like it was giving me whiplash, i don't think real people act this way. The end was really sad and sudden. She was just standing in the middle of a large crowd, getting ready to perform and even though she's practically crying, not speaking and got a massive bruise on her face, no one mentions a thing. She goes by invisibly and her rapist wishes her good luck. I obviously understand that in the end she was raped, but it is kind of what was in her letter of desires... not victim shaming! but i don't understand what she wanted to happen differently in her head. It just felt like the plot was a bit choppy, but maybe that's just the style? movies like this feel so intimidating and sophisticated that i feel wrong saying they were bad. I think maybe later in life i'll like this more, but for now it just felt a bit too confusing and choppy. I don't resonate with her self harm, or her masochism, or their relationship and i just feel confused. It was probably all the mums fault xx
real whiplash from the last one and this one hahahahah This is annoying for me because i firmly hate sequels. I hate the unoriginality and the constant need to make money from one good idea someone had once. but what do you think if the sequel isn't bad? I understand the appeal, especially when aimed at a young market, that there's no need to build the world or the backstory of the characters, cuz everyone knows the story. I was thinking, even though this wasn't bad, maybe even good or nice, I would've enjoyed it so much more if an original film i watched was this good. But then i though I probably wouldn't go see an animated movie anymore that I didn't know or have nostalgic feelings towards. So now i'm conflicted. Because the whole reason i watched it was to see if they fucked up the first one. Overall, i don't think they did. It was nice. I liked that disney was tricked into making a pro palestine movie hahahah and i liked some of the complex undertones the movie had, like corruption, propaganda, unreliable leaders etc. I also think, just like the first one, there's so many clever little ideas in how the animals coexist together which i find really creative and unique. Like the tiny doors for mice, the weather walls, the way water animals have marshes and fish markets. This was cute! but really similar to the first one in the end and i can't disconnect them, because the people who made this are clearly really smart and creative and have amazing ideas but i wish they put it towards something original. But maybe i'm a hypocrite saying that since I went to go see it because it was a sequel of a movie i liked growing up. Working on a sequel gives you a guaranteed income and fanbase which building something original from the ground up does not. I think it must be hard with kids movies, but i firmly believe adult movies don't need to be this way.
THIS IS SO SADDDD I don't fully understand who this is targeted at... cuz it's stop motion, so it feels childish, but then some of the topics in it are really grown up and serious but the combination of all of them feels kind of silly and a bit funny. I think overall it adds to the confusion of real life and even though it's not realistic, we've all had days that feel like that. I love pinky, i want to channel her energy all the time and also have a best friend like her. I wish her husband, nick cave, had a bigger part hahahha, i was a bit disappointed when he only said that one sentence. This was really cute, a bit more bleak and gritty than normal animated films (not sure if you can stay stop motion is animation?) but i liked the ups and downs and wouldn't mind watching it again. Also stop motion nudity is so funny.
I am definitely too stupid for this movie. I do really like the idea of the afterlife and angels watching over us and the shift between black and white into colour and the emotions of the immortal, but this was wayyyyy too pretentious for me. All the conversations and overheard thoughts made no sense to me! like why are you talking like that? probably me being a bit dim. It didn't even really feel existential to me, I was just confused by what was going on and why. Maybe it is a little bit because he gives up his immortality? I did like nick cave being in it even if from her to eternity is not my personal cup of tea. What was that whole speech after the concert?? like im sorry it made no sense to me. I think truthfully it was a pain to sit through and i'm gonna give it 2/5
100th movie! Watched half in my depressive episode on christmas day hahah and the rest on boxing day. This was so weird to watch cuz i don't think my grieving process would be anything like either of them here. It must be so difficult being the super stoic strong man who can't show emotion because you are always going to reach a point where you just explode. That speaks on the toxicity of masculinity, but really the ending of the movie when they can move past their grief and set their differences aside and love each other just as nephew and uncle is really beautiful. I kind of watched this in hopes of crying, but i actually didn't. I'm not sure if it's just me being cold, but the movie felt really consistently depressing and bleak and there wasn't really any super sudden sad moments. Going back in time and learning about his children was horrible. I'd obviously be fuming if i was the mother, but as the dad too I think the guilt would eat you alive. The boy was kind of annoying with his two girlfriends and always thinking with his dick instead of being sad about his dad.... but maybe that's silly of me to say like oh you need to be breaking down crying for me to believe you're sad. But he did bounce back very fast. Just looked it up that casey affleck won best actor for this. I think it was well deserved, even if he wasn't doing the most, maybe it was the lack of emotion and numbness which really did it. Michelle williams kind of annoys me, and she was pretty annoying in this too, with her crying with no tears, and THAT WIG! is so bad! The grey scenes were a bit Aberdonian, but it seemed to reflect the grief and not cause it like it does for me. They actually seemed to like it. I was kind of expecting better... It was really good and did absorb me, and felt refreshingly story driven compared to some of the other movies i've been watching recently, but i still feel like it was a bit predictable. It felt a bit like a combination of a lot of movies i've already seen before. Like depressed white man is struggling, gets put together with a younger person and they both need to learn to adapt to each other, and also the stoic man who needs to learn to express his emotions. Does it make me a stuck up prick if i only give it 3.5 like i do everything else? I think the storyline was good, but just a bit forgettable. Or should i give it a 4? If i think forward and imagine myself trying to explain this movie to someone a couple months from now, maybe I wouldn't really remember the details because maybe i didn't fully resonate with all the characters. Also giving the boy to george in the end felt like the right move but a bit random in terms of the story...
last film of the year! The familial connections were a bit confusing, but it honestly didn't really matter, it showed the beauty of found families and making your own future despite what you were born into. This message was a little cheesy at times, but i guess sometimes it needs to be. I liked seeing the dynamic between lin and everyone else, and how she became more trusting with each of them over time. It's so sad to see how confused she was by being loved. It definitely did take a darker turn when they got found out and everyone was separated. It's the sort of crime i can get behind hahaha like doing everything to protect your family and stay afloat. It's so generous that they accepted two kids into their lives when they themselves struggle. The girl who worked as some kind of sex worker was such a strange storyline. I feel like when i see things like that, the person is always taken advantage of and hates what they're doing, or it ends up badly in some way but here it seemed perfectly normal? It did still kind of upset me that in times of desperation young girls like her still need to sell their bodies to weird men but she seemed fine with it and even fell in love. which was surprising to me. Really sweet, maybe a little long for just a slice of life film. I guess afterlife by the same director was also this slow, but there it was almost otherworldly and more philosophical so it felt a little different. The ending when both kids feel alone and left by their real parents is so sad, even though it was technically wrong i wish the law could make exceptions for this family and the children's best interests. I didn't really get why the man said he wasn't his shota's dad anymore... maybe to make him feel like he missed him less or was tied to him less.
