Definitely would've wanted him to stay until the end of the series. But still I adored Near, and I love how he's like the younger version of L, and how toys help him concentrate. I found Mello interesting too, and I liked how the rivalry between him and Near, was pretty similar to the one Light and L had. Every top detective having their own thing was a nice addition to the plot. (L had sweets, Near had toys, and Mello had chocolate.) To be honest I would've wanted to see more female detectives. There were only few, and they had a little screen time. The female characters who had more screen time, were the ones who got used by Light. Lastly I have to mention the erotic foot rubbing scene. Because what was that? Definitely not casual. (I guess selling foot pictures became more popular after this was released.) I physically cringe, when I read what I just wrote.
