9.8/10

simply no words. grand scale epicness never seen before. god it’s too good. LISAN AL GAIB

9.2/10

moved it down to a 4.5. Oz Perkins’ choices seem less and less smart and more and more predictable as time goes by. other than that, i fucking love this movie so much.

8.8/10

after about a week of letting this film marinate in my mind, it’s safe to say my feelings have not changed since i first watched the movie. it’s left such an impression on me that i rarely get- truly disturbed but also in awe in how well made this film is. people are looking way too far into the screenplay and picking out “stupid decisions” but then ignore the strong narrative reasonings toward everything. Still the most ridiculous argument is that Alex Garland should’ve showed context and chose a political view to take side on- if you wanted this from the movie, and afterwards still wanted it, clearly you did NOT understand it. you either get it or you don’t, and this comes from expectations. Gladly, i set my expectations quite low expecting some batshit gruesome war, instead i got a human story about the power of photo journalism made in such a unique way; fictionalized in such a realistic world. thank god i understood this movie as garland intended and i found the “silly parts” people complained about to have a satirical and metaphorical meaning, and this made everything so much richer and better.

I can say a lot about the deep message of this movie, the role that war journalists play in war zones, showing truth without bias (just as the film was meant to be viewed), but the things that stuck out with me the most were the technical choices made in a near perfect run time. I saw a video that this movie was filmed with rare and small cameras that are not used in hollywood, and the results were amazing. I have so much respect for the DP and for all the people who made the choice to film the way this movie was filmed. There are so many shots that are seared into my head, such good blocking, phenomenal lighting and subtle details within the cinematography that it is genuinely undeniable.

The music choices stood out to me, not expected but fit in so perfectly. the editing was great, the pace was great, and i found the acting to be flawless, especially cailee spaeny, my god she’s going to be such a star.

i have so much more to say but i think i need to see it again to talk on it more. for now ill mention my favourite scenes:

Jesse Plemons scene- chilling, intense and beautiful good god what a great 5 mins of screen time he had. this whole scene was perfect i don’t care. even better was the sequence that followed after when sammy ran the men over and cailee’s character fell into the ground with the dead bodies- such a bold and beautiful bird eye view shot- and the sequence that followed next was just perfect, one of the best scenes i’ve seen in a long time. from the intense and claustrophobic feeling of a rumbling bass when they drive off, to the song breakers roar playing over scenes of them driving through a forest fire- finding beauty in the horrors of nature, and the following shots of the helicopter flying over the sunset with a beautiful guitar riff in the back… fuck me sideways what an amazing sequence.

the intro scene of the suicide bomber set the tone perfectly with the sound cutting out, and the strong editorial choice of the camera flutter… pure cinema.

finally, the 3rd act- some just fantastic modern military action and put you right in the middle of it all… then when our 3 journalists lead through the white house, that whole 10 mins was amazing, up until the big gasp moment (not too sure how i felt, but definitely didn’t hate it)- my only complaint of the movie, and yet finished so strong with the very ending scene.

need i say more (yes) but yeah i have so much to say about this still just need a rewatch. oh and btw couldn’t forget how GOOD the sound fx and sound design was. i can’t believe i liked this so much, but im proud to say this is a 5 stars.

Update: this movie is still soo good, but i moved it down to a 4.5. In hindsight it aged worse than i thought it would!

7.8/10

such a creative display of indie horror. once the movie hits its stride about half way through, it keeps going and ends up so good. i have such an inkling for analog horror and this movie does it masterfully. the 70s vibes and talk show stuff was so well done as well. the thing that caught me off guard the most was the climax of the movie, and the very end. so unexpected… yet so satisfying and so different. great horror movie.

the ai stuff is a bit disappointing, but i’m not gonna let that ruin the 99% of the movie that people worked hard on and was well made. clearly so much passion put into this one and i’m so glad it was good.

7.8/10

A great instalment in a rather fantastic franchise, specifically the reeves trilogy. just all around solid solid solid filmmaking. Nothing spectacular, but nothing horrible either. I think we all knew going into this not to set our expectations too high because noa would never top caeser as a protagonist. Kingdom indeed does do a great job of showcasing great character development, and has a unique way of storytelling in comparison to the other apes movies; reminded me of soemthing fantasy esc.

the cgi is remarkable, but it definitely looks different (i personally could tell the difference in the cgi art compared to the realistic approach that war/dawn had). 2 different vfx teams doing their absolute best. i think this is a good thing, the colors are brighter, more saturated, the world is greener and not bleak- which successfully sets itself apart from its predecessors.

the things that drag the movie down is the pacing in the first 1 hour and a half. its slow, snd introducing the human charcter so early had me skeptical, but the beginning of the movie has a saving grace when noas village is attacked in the middle of the night, amazing suspense and amazing camera choices. it sets the tone perfectly, as this movie was way darker than i thought it would be which is great!

The 3rd act was amazing, but ofc settles for a cliche “we are the apes” moment against proximus. and btw… proximus was amazing, but he needed more depth and expansion for him to be greater… wasted potential imo.

overall wes ball cooked pretty hard here. good movie!

7.4/10 dirty and grimy, creative and violent… dev patel can really direct here. with a revenge plot that really develops, the slightly mid pacing makes it seem a bit generic. camera work was fucking electrical and the movie didn’t really pull any punches which i loved! i think the main thing that made this so great is beside its generic plot structure, monkey man is a fucking fantastic action film and moggs hundreds of others that have come out in the last 5 years. also quick thing, this reminded me of the plot of king fu panda 2 so much. they r so similar and the parallels are insane

7.4/10

twisters works on a lot of levels. it’s just a great fun movie. it knows what it is and what it wants to be. daisy edgar jones was great as our lead, but miles better was glen powell. instantly radiated unbelievable aura and charisma. the rest of the cast was great too. not much negative to say other than a generic plot structure, as well as predictably. but when it’s a movie like this i will let it slide. also, this reminded me of top gun maverick; taking a beloved stand alone movie from way back and expanded on it in a fun cheesy way.

my main issue with it is some writing was weak and the direction wasn’t the sharpest, i expected a lot from lee-isaac chung (he did minari) but it feels like he really had no creative control or something. i wanted more stylistic shots and subtle cinematography.

7.3/10

wow actually surprised me how well made this was. obviously, a silly non-serious movie, but extremely fun and entertaining. absolutely loved jake in this role, connor was unhinged and surprisingly funny asf.

this movie was actually very well balanced tone wise, and the comedy works very well. the best part imo was the fight choreography and the general cinematography. i loved every bit of it.

only big problem was some of the shitty vfx shots… wtf was that bridge scene 😭

anyways what a fucking blast i had with this one, expectations were low, and it completely surpassed them.

7.2/10

in a movie where the style and the cinematography completely overpowers (in a good way), i expected a bit more within the screenplay. but this is a very odd and different movie. super erotic, super LESBIAN, and very quirky in dramatic ways. Everyone was amazing, o’brian really surprised me… but kristen stewart stole every scene as our main… amazing work.

i really don’t know how to feel about those silly moments , may or may not have dragged the movie down for me?

7/10

i don’t really know what to say other than gosling is the best and this movie is a great homage to stunts and stunt teams. okay i am back from a couple months when this dropped, and yeah it was fun and chill, pretty funny as well. good time at the movies!

7/10

had to drop it down to a 3.5, not aging great in my head. glen powell wow ur awesome. also great chemistry w his costar…. but fuck me was this ever wasted potential. i still liked it!

6.2/10

the first king fu panda is my favourite animated movie of all time and my favourite movie from my childhood. the 2nd is amazing too, and the 3rd is great as well. so when i heard this movie didn’t fit in with the high value of the 3 first ones i was shocked and disappointed. then i watched it and…….. and wasn’t bad at all! standard generic stuff when it comes to the story, bit i enjoyed it! my biggest gripe is the waste of the old villians. a trend in hollywood nowadays is to take advantage of nostalgia and bring back beloved characters while either attempting to service the story or just to use them for a gag. in this one, they fit in the story but are used poorly without care. AHHHHHHHH

6/10

definitely a unique movie with such a high concept, they kinda set themselves up for a bit of mediocrity with what they were trying to go for, but i still can say i enjoyed this one quite a bit. i was surprisingly immersed, especially due to adam sandlers performance. some of the writing especially for his character didn’t work for me at all, but most the time it really made the movie watchable. paul dano is great as the alien spider, carey mulligan was good for what she had too.
great score, great vfx, great cinematography… the screenplay needed some work though. also, i’m mixed on the 3rd act 🤷
overall pretty decent movie, i love when adam sandler takes dramatic roles and actually does them effectively. Not his best performance, but effective for sure.

5.8/10

it’s like a lazy and unserious inglorious basterds… but it’s also it’s own thing too which kind works and kinda doesn’t. henry cavill = awesome in this…. guy ritchie has more to offer than this movie as well. it’s also a sad movie ofc. don’t have much else to say

overall, this one is basically hell yeah simulator but the british chaps version in WW2. cool!

5.2/10

the beekeeper is one of those “fun bad” movies but in the best possible way. saw this one with my dad and it’s my first 2024 movie watched.
it has a promising intro, but once the revenge plot comes in, it’s done in 15 minutes… but then there’s more, and more, and more… and yeah i can’t lie it was fun to watch. yes it’s ridiculous and silly but jason statham was sooo badass. and to top it all off, the movie wasn’t that boring, which was surprising. josh hutcherson and jeremy irons were fun to watch and made the actual story watchable. i don’t think you can hate this movie.
