“Nothing really matters”First of all, I need to learn how to start my reviews, until then I'll just make a long preface. Anyway. Everything everywhere all at once is one of the movies that I've had on my watchlist for a long time, since it came out. I heard very good things everywhere, critics called it one of the best movies of the last 20 years, I had seen the CRAZY number of Oscars it won that year and in general as time went by the hype around it didn't go away. So a random night like yesterday when I was just looking for something to watch from my watchlist, I saw that the aforementioned movie is on Cinobo, Cinobo has a 7-day free trial, so do the math. Daniel Kwan's masterpiece, because it is a masterpiece, is probably the best depiction of the multiverse on the big screen, a fact that in itself makes you understand that what you are about to see will be unique. First of all, I cannot leave uncommented that the script and direction of the film are from another universe... incredible ideas and ways of presenting the multiverse, a masterfully built story that, although superficially it seems that doom prevails, at its base is a story about the value of family and the people you have around you. The changes from universe to universe, the smooth way the whole story is tied into 3 parts, how without having a practical "villian" the film manages to keep the tension and interest of the viewer high, the direction in the fight scenes... honestly a masterful job. As for the film's CGI, I think the flawless result speaks for itself, and for those who didn't know, the special effects team consisted of only 5 people... 5 people who, whatever knowledge they have about special effects is from tutorials on YouTube. Mindfuckingblowing. It's incredible how the film doesn't waste itself on the multiverse and the action but uses them to teach a very important message to all viewers. Whether it's called a multiverse with different versions of ourselves and our lives, or simply called scenarios we make in our minds about how we would have a better/different life, none of this matters at all. In all the "universes" the only thing that remains unchanged are human relationships. The movie tells you that you should love and appreciate your family, the people around you, you should face life with kindness, leaving behind negativity, prejudice, vindictiveness… only in this way can you escape the imaginary misery that your brain builds, degrading your real life, through the other “universes” that it creates. No matter how many “what ifs” you’ll think of the one that you’ll be the most happy on ,is probably the one you’re right now. You just have to be kind. I know that I have not mentioned the actors’ performances anywhere and it would be borderline blasphemous not to do so, but the movie literally won an Oscar for best leading actress, best supporting actress AND best supporting actor… what else can I say for anyone to understand that all 3 gave career-making performances? Everything everywhere all at once is the actual meaning of : absolute cinema !! Αυτά

Quite by chance, before I saw the movie, I saw a lot of good things on social media about Pearl and Mia Goth's performance, which we recently saw again in Frankenstein, and in general the movie was very highly regarded by people who appreciate slashers. After doing a little searching, I realized that Ti West released an entire trilogy of films in 1.5 years and I didn't even get it. So without looking for further information, I simply searched for the first film in the trilogy and pressed play. X is a classic 70s-80s slasher movie. A group of people go to a remote cabin, they meet some creepy old man, the tension of the movie builds in the first half organically but also through 1-2 stupid jumpscares that I considered unnecessary and when we reach the last half hour of the movie, the Killing spree begins. Personally, I didn't expect anything wow and I didn't fall out (script-wise). If you exclude Pearl's connection with Maxine, which is not clearly explained in the film, the script was a ready-made recipe for a mediocre to good result. I don't know if in Pearl, which is considered a prequel, it explains the old woman's story and provides a basis for everything that happens in the first film, but that doesn't matter because personally the grandparents who were the "bad guys" of the story never gave me a clear reason for doing all this, throughout the film they simply dropped hints that they are sexists who like to murder, but sorry, that doesn't work for me, I want the “bad guys” to have clear motive for their actions . In terms of direction, I liked several details that show that the film has been made by people who know about cinema and the genre in general. Excellent POV shots that increase the tension, all the murder scenes were very well built and executed (with the practical effects and CGI being almost flawless), the setting of certain lines that lead to nice callbacks at the end and so much more. Not to forget to mention, Mia Goth, although she did not have the most well-written character, carries the film on her shoulders with her performance that radiates the "innocence" but also the character's strength, where she is determined to live the life of a star no matter what Overall, a nice and entertaining slasher movie. The goal for today was a relaxed movie night and X really did its job !! Αυτά
