Possession
This movie is amazing but crazy. The main thing I got from this movie is that divorce absolutely sucks, and two unhinged people probably shouldn't get married and have a kid.
In terms of what literally happened, I'm not sure, but this movie is so surreal and expressive that I'm not even sure if that matters. It’s definitely fascinating. It's one of those movies where even when it gets absolutely insane and abstract, it still always feels like there was something completely genuine that the director was truly trying to express to the audience. It never feels phony or overly pretentious, it just feels like a really raw and expressive portrait of extreme emotion at the forefront of something like a bad divorce, and the confusion, anger, and thoughtlessness that can be brought on by those extreme feelings and emotions.
It's kinda sad that I can't imagine something like this being made today. It's just so unflinchingly bold and extreme in its expressiveness. Both the actors and the director were clearly putting their all into it and were allowed all the creative freedom to do so.
