This is the type of movie you stare in awe at— not just simply because of the beautiful cinematography, not because how you spent 3 hours watching and being proven that a movie masterpiece you've heard from word of mouth; while they've contributed to the reason, the main one will fall on where, when, why, who, how, and what a film is to the viewer. What effect does it hold? How and why does it have a relevance in an individual? A movie about movies, capturing the essence of beauty of it and love of the maker and consumer— a love letter to the craft of film. While you're left pondering on how to answer the set of queries, Toto answers the questions by what we see and hear of from the movie. His life in motion was a film roll tethered with love and passion— what began as an escape had became something he couldn't run from, woven into his own identity. It's so obvious how Cinema Paradiso and Alfredo shaped him to the man he is, so into the craft of film there's hardly not a moment he's probably not involved in it; evolving from an admirer of flicks, to a projectionist showing them, to a filmmaker. Not the mention how much of a romantic he is— no normal being would do all that, that's genuinely something you'd see in the movies. I was left all teary from the ending that cemented what it all meant to him. > "Life is not like what you've seen in cinematography. Life is much harder" And when I say everyone has heard of a variant of this quote or at least what it's trying to say, I mean everyone! Toto hearing it from Alfredo feels more of a sting than just a euphemism. Moreover, the saying is true to Salvatore! > "Don't look back. Don't write. Don't give in to nostalgia. Forget us all. Whatever you end up doing, love it." My heart aches and tears into pieces hearing this cause he's still bound to it! Puking when I really listen in— it was like Alfredo was also telling me not to watch this movie again. Like hell I will! I don't think there needs to be an explanation on how much a movie changes a person from one stage to another, i'm sure anyone will realize it themselves. This is not a movie just for people who constantly watch films, it's really for everyone. I'm in love and it's with cinema!
