Apocalypse Now
Apocalypse Now is a haunting masterpiece from the great Francis Ford Coppola. It's a psychological war film about the toll of war and human nature. Its beautifully done and the cast is amazing.
The shots are the biggest thing I noticed. You can't not talk about this film and not mention the iconic water shot. But outside of the every shot feels iconic. The cinematography is on point throughout this entire film.
Martin Sheen puts in work as Willard. He showed beautiful emotions throughout the film. And the last 20 minutes is where he shined. His ominous expressions were all I needed to see even with him barely speaking in those last 20 minutes.
Of course I have to mention the man him self Marlon Brando. Kurtz is terrifying. His God like tendencies are on full display. His character is haunting, delusional, and just incredible. They spend this whole movie building him up. And when they finally get him. It does not disappoint.
I love a good war movie as much as the next guy but one like this really suits me. The combat is limited and its like the horrifying version of the Jungle Cruise ride. All the characters we spend the most time with are fleshed out very well. And in the beginning while I don't like some of the boat members. They make me care about them in the end and what happens to them.
This in my opinion is Coppola's magnum opus and his best film by far. It's one of my favorite war films and one of my favorite psychological films.
