**Frédéric: ***po**lygamy? that's barbarian. it turns women into slaves.* **Chloé**: n*ot if women do it as well. if you were normal, you'd sleep with anyone you wanted, and so would your wife. i know I'm right and someday I'll convince you. you'll cheat on your wife one day. not necessarily with me. another girl will reap the benefits of my hard work.* **Frédéric**: i*n a polygamous society, i'd be polygamous. no problem. but in the society we live in, i won't base my life on lies. i hide too much from my wife as it is.* **Chloé**: w*hat makes you think she doesn't? * rohmers films are brutally honest yet simultaneously gentle and beautiful. he creates such a powerful intimacy between the characters with incredible dialogue, i'm yet to watch a film of his that doesn't leave me wanting to conversate with others in the way his characters do. he exposes and intellectualizes human desire and the almost illogical juxtapositions in our nature. rohmer bridges philosophical realism with dreamlike visuals, his films feel like they dig into my brain and organises the contents for the screen better than i ever could. the surreal dream monologue with all his previous leading actresses was so so good, i watched it on repeat a few times, mesmerized and laughing. this film, like all his others, asks so many interesting questions you could debate for lifetimes and not come to an agreed upon answer.

dad said im banned from suggesting films now. watching this and then reading leonora carringtons short stories. oh we're so surreal tonight.
