Moonlight
"In moonlight, black boys look blue."
AP Research Queer Cinema and Activism Evolution #4/6
what a powerful film this was. a movie with a central gay character that not only delivers an arc that is so relatable to other gay and queer individuals, but one that just about any person (but men specifically), can relate to. in a world so dominated by hatred and spite for those that don't fit into the "mold," both today and during the original release of Moonlight, this work serves as a mirror into the harmful and downright abhorrent societal standards that come with masculinity. you must act a certain way, walk a certain way, think and play a certain way. all things that are drilled into young boys' heads as adolescents. whether that be from their own parents, other kids at school, or their idols. this movie is too important not be shown to young boys of all ages. not only to expose them to a world that's not so black and white romantically, but a world that supports and builds up men, all the way from their young 10-year-old "Little" self.
