The Shining
the peak of slow burn cinema
forgot how stressful this was, and even more so with the piercing and string-heavy soundtrack banging in my ears with each tense scene of my theater. Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall are so damn incredible in this. looping through this maze of a hotel with them makes you become physically ill and nervous. and still to this day, i have not seen a movie use a camera and use symmetry quite like this movie. every scene lingers a little more than it should, and that anticipation for something to just jump at you becomes a 50/50 chance of if it will actually happen. The Shining encapsulates what the Overlook Hotel does to its victims: it drives you insane, and the more you look into the film’s production and the weird little details in the background of each shot, the more you spiral into the jaws of The Shining. it’s phenomenal, i doubt there will ever be another movie quite like this.
