i have so many thoughts i haven't even gotten a chance to fully absorb all of it. genuinely fucking insane. one of the most scary and tense theatre experiences i've ever had. when her head went through that car window I audibly gasped, I knew it was going to happen and I was so prepared for it and it still shook me to my core. I hope to see Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston in so many other things they were so incredible. Curry Barker's direction was unbelievable and I can't wait to watch some of his other horror works. incredible film, incredible acting, i loved it.

people these days yearn for the black lodge so incredibly unnerving and claustrophobic. it's exactly the kind of horror that i gravitate towards because it doesn't really waste much time on cheap jump scares. the things that catch you off guard manage to take the wind out of your lungs even though they've been building since the moment the movie starts. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve are obviously absolute powerhouses in this film. I love Renate and I didn't even know I needed her in horror until this. there were just so many great scenes, the laundry room scene with Bobby and Kat??? when i saw the face popping out of the pile of laundry I genuinely had to watch through gaps in my fingers. and god that dining room sequence??? i spent that entire scene holding my breath, and my absolute SHOCK when Clark ripped that guys stomach open. I think Kane Parsons did such a good job creating the atmospheric sense of dread within the backrooms, that whole sequence where the audience watches through the handheld camera was insane and I loved it. I know absolutely zero of the backrooms lore from the youtube series so I assume a lot of my many (many many many many many) questions can probably be answered by watching some of those videos. I will say I wish there was a bit more clarification on the ending with the MRI scientist guy and on how much time Clark actually spent in the backrooms??? I figured there was a time skip but I'm honestly not sure if Clark had been in there for months or if he just went batshit crazy in one weekend. Yeah I still have so many questions but it's late so I cannot start watching liminal horror youtube videos on my phone in the dark otherwise *i* will go crazy. Super fun, I loved it!

i could say about half a dozen things about this movie but one thing that always sticks with me when thinking about Speed compared to a lot of modern action movies is the choice to kill Harry. So many movies (and even television shows) now just play it so safe and refuse to kill off any characters that the audience might like enough to be mad about it. Harry's death definitely does move the plot as well as give additional motivation for Jack and it's something I don't think a lot of screenwriters have the guts to do. would make a great double feature with Point Break, "movies where they unexpectedly kill off Keanu Reeves' law enforcement partner in a dramatic fashion".

my favorite character in this is the lawyer named Gracie Law, incredible character naming thank you John Carpenter
