Aftersun

I was left speechless after the ending, trying to understand and accept that he died after the vacation. There are many scenes that indicate Calum was intending to kill himself after the vacation. Standing on the railing during the day, wandering into the ocean in the middle of the night, cutting his wrist in the bathroom and doing nothing about it. He wanted to live for Sophie, his books about meditation and tai chi indicated he did try. I guess something came over him, weighed him until he couldn’t handle it. We see that he’s struggling financially, but still buys the expensive rug, many suicidal people buy lavish things before ending things, yet another indication Calum couldn’t take it anymore. Paul plays Calum so fucking well, I cried the second the film ended, it’s ridiculous he didn’t even get an Oscar nomination for Aftersun, it’s one of the best performance of depression I’ve seen in movies.
