D.P.
D.P. tells the story of a man named Ahn Jun Ho who is carrying out his duties as a conscripted soldier in South Korea. One day he accepts his boss' offer to become a D.P. (Deserter Pursuit), a military police assigned to arrest deserters or soldiers who left the military without permission.
In this series, we will follow the journey of Ahn Jun Ho (played by Jung Hae In) and Han Hoyeol (played by Koo Kyo Hwan) as D.P. who work together in one team to find and arrest deserters.
This series doesn't just give catch-and-catchers in each episode. But this series also highlights everyday life's soldiers during military service. And this series also explores each of the deserters characters in each episode. And most of those who desertating the military are those who are bullied and mistreated in the military. Until they can't stand it, even it can affect their mental.
In this series, the Korean military is famous for being strict and obedient to the rules, but it turns out that there are also many deviant things that the military soldiers do. Abuse of seniority, persecution, and even power are commonplace there. Even the higher-ups there, who think about their own interests, rather than the welfare of their soldiers.
The military is always the same. The weak get weaker, the strong get stronger. The others just didn't defend themselves. The system inside has been like that for a long time. Just like canteens that haven't changed since 1953. It's hard to accept, but it's the truth.
Other than the harshness of the military and the irregularities in it, this series has a pretty impressive drama behind it all, which made me cry and tear up. The casts did their job very well.
Jung Hae In as the main character from beginning to end gave an incredibly great acting performance. His performance that I've been watching lately really amazes me. I don't know, but I can really feel the character's emotions through his eyes. And it always touches me. I love him and his performance.
Ahn Junho is a smart and quiet. But he has a sad family background. His father used to beat his mother and himself. While Han Hoyeol is a character who is also smart but silly. Even though his character is not very explored here, Han Hoyeol always brings funny and joy in this series. They're a perfect combination, cool, yet entertaining.
In technical side, this series also presents cinematography, camera movement, montages, and shooting which are very amazing, imo. I was also very impressed with the fight scenes which were very brutal, real and full of emotion in it. It makes me sick.
I love the soundtracks as well. Especially the opening of each episode, which is titled "Crazy by Kevin Oh, Primary". Listen to all the soundtracks here: D.P. (Music from the Netflix Series)
Overall, D.P. is a terrific Korean series with very high quality, that have an interesting and emotional storyline. I really do recommend this series, guys.
If I want things to change, I should at least do something.
