if letterboxd let you add a movie to a list twice this would be at the top and the bottom. the first time i saw it I thought it was the only movie where the 4dx choreography improved the experience; when I brought friends to see the -c version in 4dx a few weeks later the 4dx track was running about 30 seconds ahead of the movie and it was a disaster.
in conversation with godzilla minus one; generally knew to save it for the moments where it really mattered, and even some of the more unnecessary effects had a bit of thought to them (specifically thinking of jay and his mom driving home from the cemetery early on and how the chairs not only vibrated but bumped on a cadence similar to a car). knocked down because the use of the fans at the very end were not using the language the film had established throughout and were way too loud and abrupt.
the only time ive gotten smells in a 4dx theater and i finally got to smell what a bulbasaur smells like (they smell the same as the mewtwo gas)
podracing an iconic 4dx sequence if there ever was one but it was the comedy of the darth maul death scene that bumps this up near the top of the list
nearly fell out of my seat during the mario kart sequence and if im getting flung out of my seat im having a good time
for such a wet movie it underused the water effects imo but another peak chair shaking experience
like phantom menace but without the highlights
it was fine! but i feel like a looney tunes movie was really the chance to let your 4dx freak flag fly and it was just normal, to me.
does my friend whispering to me “this is what wicked is about???” when they realized the plot of wizard of oz was happening in the background count as an immersive effect? the tornado was fun!
a masterclass in the use of the back punchers but inauthentic to the experience of the film where neither dwayne johnson and jason statham can get injured
one of the worst things a 4dx movie can be is unmemorable. why am i paying an upcharge to NOT get thrown out of my chair?
you can be the best movie in the world and if all you’re using the 4dx for is following the camera tilts and pans you would end up near the bottom of the list. verity is not the best movie in the world. (that being said the splatter of water during the car accident at the top of the movie did make me laugh out loud)
