The Shining

I mean just wow. I’ve seen this before but when I was like 12, but I in no way could’ve appreciated what Kubrick did here. Each thing that happens in this movie relates to the larger story and somehow impacts the climax. And I don’t even know if this needs to be said but the camera work is fantastic. Those zoom shots and quick cuts are awesome as well as the shots following Danny on the bike especially. The score is so haunting throughout and really adds so much atmosphere. And the imagery too wow! As great as Jack Nicholson is, the kid that plays Danny is really good, especially with those haunting facial expressions he manages to pull off. Talking about Jack, I love how the cracks in his sanity start to form early and just widen as it progresses. And it keeps going until all he’s able to muster are animalistic grunts by the end. What a great rewatch caught so much more this time!
