Prisoners
A film I’ve heard lots about over the years and I finally decided to watch it and I am so happy that I made that decision. Easily slips into one of my favourite films I’ve seen.
Jake Gyllenhaal is outstanding in his role as detective Loki, I think it’s easily one of his best roles I’ve seen. I love how we see him breakdown more in the second half of the film, for majority of the film he keeps composed for the sake of the kids but after the suspect kills himself he just loses it and I was waiting for that because I wanna see the effect it has on the police with this type of case. I love the ending where he finds Anna then takes her to the hospital.
Hugh Jackman also gives one of his best performances, I like the fact he takes Alex and keeps him hostage, I do think at some parts he did feel remorse and guilt for taking him hostage but at the end of the day he did what he felt was right in order to save his daughter. All those scenes are great. I think the scenes in the car with Jake were great I love how he expressed himself and it was raw emotion.
I think it’s quite eerie at times aswell like it kind of gave me that feeling, for example near the start there’s a shot of a tree and they keep moving in on it and there’s some like music playing and it made it so eerie and like weird, I loved it. I wasn’t entirely expecting the aunt to be the whole leader of the operation obviously her and the husband started it but then I think she might’ve killed him not the priest. I think it’s an excellent story and you know it keeps you wondering who took them and at no point did I feel it was Alex who took them. Honestly this is a must watch for everyone.
