Before Sunset
shakespeare & co is where all the magic happens :) oh this is an instant favourite!!!! they just picked up exactly where they left off in the first film. céline and jesse have this once in a lifetime opportunity to talk about the one night they shared many years ago.
how do we create and hold space in our minds for that one special memory we cannot seem to let go of? how do you remember it? how do i? what really happened? who’s romanticizing it?
through his lenses. through hers. what do they deem to be an idealized version of themselves? a hopeful love story that was never going to work out? they were so naïve… but who still wrote that book hoping she’ll show? who showed up to the store knowing he’s married? who is still wearing those rose-coloured glasses?
you remember that? no that’s not what happened. and of course i remember moments. how did he write about that night in his book. how did she in her ‘94 journal. what they will avouer to each other —we had sex twice u idiot! memory plays some tricks but it was real. it was real. let me sing you a waltz <3
side note: i’m turning 23 in september. nine years from now really means jumping from 23 to 32, that’s so scary, actually terrifying to me. céline and jesse aren’t these hopeful and naively in love kids with zero consequences anymore — they’re out there in the real world.
i can’t really explain it, but this movie felt like a tight hug. sort of reassuring, you know? like i’m not going to die tonight - i can’t really explain it, it’s just oddly reassuring.
what are the chances!!! we’re not real anyways right!!!!taken from the very first few minutes of the film, what will it be? to be a cynic or a romantic? to answer that would take the piss out of the whole thing!!!!!!
most of all, love is so real thank you!!! walking around in the best city ever too (chui biased mais walking around paris for hours —best feeling ever)!!!! i just love it because i’ve said so many of céline’s lines in real life. she gets it.
it’s inevitable but i really don’t want to be left with regrets years after. if something feels right in the present time, we should get to feel it all while we still have this sense of control. i don’t want to live in my head and i don’t want to be dying inside. i don’t want to be living in my head with what could have beens. but a lot of life is giving in and trusting in letting things fall into place once we’ve done as much as we can.
holy yap.
