bella is ensnared by the way men perceive her. she’s seen as a whore by the characters surrounding her and even by the film itself. the sex is rough and lacking intimacy, reflecting the way the men around her perceive it. her world is shaped solely by men. in a society where her only escape is through sex, it shows how her knowledge is restricted to what the men in her life dictate. yorgos lanthimos did a brilliant job of portraying it, along with emma stone.
