The Odyssey
The whole movie was built up beautifully and I loved it except for a few parts that really pissed me off and just upset me.
1. A few inaccuracies about the story in general. There were times where they repeated phrases word for word so it was obvious they had Homer’s version as a reference, still there were scenes that just neglected which I will talk about in 2. Like when Hermes told Odysseus about Circe, the instructions were practically 99% accurate.
2. Another factor is that they treated non consensual sex as something consensual. As an example when Calypso and him went to bed and in this adaptation they treated their dynamic like Odysseus enjoyed it. In the book he cried on the beach each day for hours until Calypso dragged him to bed and forced herself onto him. They completely ignored these topics in the book and chose to make him DANCE WITH THE MAIDS?! WTH?!!
Alone the passion he showed to Calypso and Circe in bed really made it look like he was cheating on Penelope and the movie tried to play it off that he was thinking about Penelope all the way but that just doesn’t excuse his gentle touches and passion he showed them. It really made me cringe.
It overall this movie is a good way to tell the general story in under 3 hours but still, this felt more like Ulysses than Odysseus.
