The Prestige
“Now you’re looking for the secret… but you won’t find it, because of course you’re not really looking. You don’t really want to know. You want to be fooled.”
This film has been on my watchlist for MONTHS and I was nervous that it wasn’t going to live up to my expectations. Christopher Nolan films have been a hit or a miss for me. Don’t get me wrong, he is an incredible filmmaker but, I want to finish a movie and think “what the fuck did I just watch” and this movie did exactly that. The first two acts were a little slow in my opinion but, it was building up for the big finale in the third act. The line from Cutter explains this film perfectly. Between the second and third act you start to think about what is going on but then you just stop because you don’t want to know. Waiting for Angier and Borden’s final meeting to explain how it all happened is well worth the wait and the audience is left feeling the way Angier intends them to feel. This film perfectly embodies Nolan’s directing style for me and is his best film in my opinion
