Acting was really good, they need more non a-list actors in movies tbh

I've checked out the og odyssey story, so im finally ready to give an honest and well worded/valid review. Nolans film was mediocre at most, and i think my review is quite the generous one. First off ill start with the strong aspects. The shots without cgi are impressive. Definetely enhances all performances to a degree and increases memorability of the movie for me. Sound is one of the only thing that held me frim falling asleep in the first half. I must say, even in a boring scene with relatively no plot, the sound was GROUNDSHAKING, EXHILIRATING. I was genuinely shitting myself in imax in the cyclops scene. That being said, ill move on to what didnt work for me, which outweighs the pros of this film by a major difference. First off, why are we using an imax camera in this economy? Absolutely unnecessary. Maybe its because he knew only imax sound systems would keep the viewer from dozing off in the boat scenes. Does this mean its only entertaining with 4x louder speakers and screens? Also i just dont like nolan in general. Dark, monotonous, "manly, epic" shots with little emotion, that emotion being artificial and forced (for example, matt damon doing the same "confusion/anger/realization" face in the entirety of the scenes. Second, the vibes were off, and this is more of a personal thing, but i dont think greek mythology movies should have this vibe. For example, for greek mythology, id much rather prefer colorful, summery shots, similar to the drawings that depcit these mythological incidents (for example the drawing of odysseus feasting with the empire that granted him a ship to go back to his hometown in the original story, not the film.) These colours could be used to show and not "tell", which happened a lot in the odyssey. A lot of messages/ concepts were explained rather than symbolized, which i dont like. Instead of the cmbyn/portrait of a lady on fire/narnia type mystical vibe i wanted the movie to give, it just gave... oppenheimer, fury, 1917, clash of the titans. Intented audience?: mysoginistic teenage boys. I also think the story was altered but this altering didnt prove effective for the plot, because despite cutting down multiple islands visited and events experienced, and adding the COMPLETELY unnecesarey calypso part, (terrible acting from almost the whole cast, btw), the film was EXTREMELY slow pacing wise, and it didnt feel like we were getting anywhere with the plot. I was just as lost as odysseus and his crew. Odysseus forgetting his family for a bunch of years makes no sense, makes his return attempts feel ingenuine. Odysseus is also not the amazing all might and loving war hero nolan depicts him ass, he cheats on penelope, even birthing a child with the witch. I feel this wouldve deepened the movies plot. Also, the athena part was RIDICULOUS. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. Athena carries such importance because she is the only god who backs odysseus up while all of the other ones are against her, begging zeus and making it possible for hom to leave calypso. Also, the entirety of the events happen because of odysseuses ego and foolishness, with him saying his name is nobody to cyclops after offering him wine, and when the other giants ask him whats going on he says "nobody is killing me! Nobody is killing me!". Later, just as odysseus is leaving the island he says his name is odysseus, letting cyclops curse him. This is absolutely necesarry for the plot and i cant believe nolan didnt include this. They actually also almost arrived to their homeland in two instances but the wind literally blocked them. In general, the comments i liked explain nolans directing style (which i dont like) and i think the odyssey had the potential to be a five star movie. Dissapointed.

Only film i can relate to as a table tennis player.. I feel like the rating goes up when you know how table tennis is. Marty supreme does a great job of capturing the drive and competitiveness of table tennis (probably the most underrated sport ever) Ugh i love table tennis
