Jackie Brown
Tarantino’s best, taking all of the tropes that made him famous and putting them against the backdrop of a more grounded world. Wherein PULP Fiction is defined by its almost ‘PULP’ magazine style of characters and plotting, Jackie Brown opts for something much more interesting and mundane
both Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown, like Frank Miller’s Sin City and Ed Brubaker & Sean Phillips’ Criminal comics, show two different ways someone can deconstruct the crime/noir genre. One opts to take all of the established tropes of the genre and blow them up to crazy proportions to really investigate what makes these ideas so interesting, meanwhile the other chooses to bring things closer to reality- to reveal the real, ugly truth behind these otherwise bombastic ideas
- I liked it a lot!
