Jaws

the movie that accelerated galeophobia to the stratosphere, jaws is an iconic and masterful work on effective horror. every component of this movie contributes to enhancing that sinking dread, but id like to specifically highlight its sfx. the sfx work on this is probably one of the finest example, making the movie just reach a whole new level. the music that comes whenever the shark is present is genuinely chilling but what makes it more effective is its silences. its no surprise if this movie is the horror movie to study for upcoming horror filmmakers because i cannot think of a movie that lays each element so carefully to ensure maximum suspense as much as this. the editing and cinematography are so well done it genuinely is mind blowing how good this movie looks and how well paced it is. while the story itself presents a pretty basic premise, the underlying themes and just the execution of the plot is just amazing. the way they foreshadow the final battle, the mise en abyme of the ww2 story, and just the dynamic of the characters is chef kiss man. anyways, good movie.
