Great performances across the board. Pankaj Kapur was so believable as a stubborn, obsessive doctor, and Shabana Azmi as Seema was amazing. You felt her pain and frustration the entire time wanting to leave because she received no love, yet staying by his side anyway. She was low key the MVP. Irrfan, as usual, was a delight to watch, showing how incredible he was even when he was that young.

The Odyssey is an intense and massive film that delivers big scale and an emotional journey that genuinely hits, even if the runtime stretches a bit too long. I thought the modern accents and phrasing would feel jarring, but I didn't even notice them: the story just completely locks you in. The entire third act during the return to Ithaca is incredible, especially with the disguised payoff at the end, creating a wild contrast to Circe’s island, which left me with my mouth open in sheer horror and disgust. Did Nolan finally learned to write female characters with real three dimensional depth or maybe we just have Homer to thank for that?, but the absolute best parts of the film come down to the performances: John Leguizamo is unforgettable as the blind old Eumaeus, and Elliot Page steals the screen with a haunting, incredible monologue.
