Inglourious Basterds
Inglorious Basterds is a film with a rich ensemble cast and several memorable characters. For me, is one of the best war films out there because, even though it includes fiction in it, it show the society of that time and the fear that the people who were against the germans felt.
The characters of Colonel Hanz Landa, portrayed by Christoph Waltz is such a complex and interesting character that he becomes enjoyable to watch, even though his actions are horrendous. This cunning and manipulative SS officer was nicknamed “The Jew Hunter” highlights the apprehension and fear he instills in others. He is well-known for his intelligence and mastery of languages and besides that he is both charming and terrifying, that makes the audience feel fascination and anxiety toward him.
He is responsible for several key events in the film and plays a pivotal role in its conclusion.
Lieutenant Aldo Raine portrayed by Brad Pitt is the leader of the Basterds, a group of Jewish-American soldiers conducting guerrilla operations in Nazi-occupied France. Nicknamed “Aldo the Apache” for carving swastikas into the foreheads of surviving Nazis, he is an important character and also carries a sense of justice due to his insistence that each Basterd owes him 100 Nazi scalps.
These are the two major characters in the movie, but the rest of the characters and cast are wonderful and contribute strongly to the story.
To sum up, this film is breathtaking and everyone should watch it at least once in their life. Personally, I've watched this film three times already because of the story and the amazing director Quentin Tarantino.
