Adolescence
I TRIED TO LOCK IN ON THIS ONE.
First of all 75% of time I was fascinated on how different a Liverpool accent is from the mainstream London one I know.
Overall, I believe my expectations were way too high. Pretty high rating for a miniseries, and the awards it got. After watching, Jamie’s actor 100% deserved that Emmy.
Anyway the whole one-take concept I think is hard to nail but it wasn’t horrible here. Along with Jamie everyone else performed a bit too well it was kinda scary.
However I believe that was what threw me off. They made a standard crime meets hormonal teenager storyline and made the actors’ performances carry the thrill of the show. It worked, I definitely cannot deny that. I just wish they built up the story more. Like, the series peaked in the 3rd episode with the psychologist, so I expected a grand finale for the 4th.
It turned out to be just Eddie’s birthday day in a life ft. Sad faces and “daddy I changed my plea.” Ever since then it’s just been shots of them on the verge of tearing up partnered with somber ambient music. I have to reiterate that yes the acting in this episode was insanely good and in fact carried the episode as a whole. I just would’ve preferred the finale to match the freak the psychologist episode had.
I bet there’s some sort of niche artistry behind how the show ended but I’m just a standard watcher who wants a good time LMAO
Really good show, definitely recommend. It’s just something I don’t find the value in rewatching.
