Psycho
knowing the whole bates thing didn’t ruin anything, which honestly surprised me. the shower scene is iconic, but what stood out more was how the movie leans into this strange mix of tension and camp that somehow still works and i really like. the abrupt shift after marion’s death is bold, even if it makes her sister and sam feel emotionally checked out to an almost funny degree. like marion dies and her sister and sam are just kind of like ‘okay?’😭 the pacing is wild, but the suspense holds up in a way that keeps you on edge, like the movie never fully settles. norman’s ‘friendliness’ is genuinely unsettling, and the moments where his performance slips feel way more effective than the big reveals. also, his mom’s voice absolutely killed me every time it showed up. even knowing the twist, the movie still holds its power because it’s more interested in atmosphere and discomfort than surprise. it feels ahead of its time in how casually cruel and crazy it is, which def explains why it still gets referenced constantly. really glad i finally watched!
