Poor Things
The soundtrack, set design, cinematography, special visual effects, acting, makeup and hair, costume, and editing - simply OUTSTANDING. Such a curious and bold film; a clear standout in Lanthimos’ career. Emma Stone absolutely deserves the nomination AND win for her performance here. And as for the set design and special visual effects: GOD!!! I read an article about ‘The Perfectly Imperfect VFX of Poor Things’ and found it to be exactly that.
However, I did find that the runtime was a bit unnecessarily lengthy and could’ve been shortened as the plot became quite tedious and almost winding towards the end. I also feel as though the ending somewhat minimized Bella’s character development almost? Not quite sure what to make of it yet. I also wish that the “signature” track from the score was used more than once as I thought it was a true standout.
Overall, I definitely think that this deserves the recognition it is getting in this year’s awards season. There is also something about the film that is just so brave that leads me to believe that it will be viewed as a classic in the future.
