**“God is dead, and we killed him”** Why? you may ask. Because humans whenever they meet someone or something they don’t know, they don’t trust, they fear they attack first. Just like in the movie. The fact that is set in the United States makes me wonder if it’s really about aliens…

**"For starters, they can’t feel anything. Can you imagine how good that must feel? I mean, there’s no thoughts, no pain, no ego. No fear. They simply... exist. Like furniture."** The first half of the movie makes you feel like you’re watching a simple movie about this internet phenomenon, but then the second half starts and you totally change your perspective on the movie. It gets darker on a psychological scale it makes you understand why these familiar rooms that we’ve been seeing on the internet for years make us feel something strange, creeps us out. Because in the movie these rooms aren’t part of a simple secret “dimension” instead they are “a room of one’s own” they reflect the life of the subject that enters the backroom, for example we see how at first these places are filled with house decors, that’s because initially in the movie the backroom symbolizes Clark’s life and own mind even the entities, at first glance we don’t think much about it but then in the scene where Clark ties Dr. Mary to the chair and they put up the act of when he was kicked out of his house, the entity behind him resembles the wife, and that is implied especially when the entity that resembles him is about to appear and the “wife” goes nuts, that is because she is and was also in real life scared of him that night, from then on it all gets more clear. Everything is just a reflection of the wrecked life that they hide or ignore, that’s why by the end of the movie we see a a bunch of debris and the house destroyed, because that’s related to Dr. Mary’s childhood trauma. The sad part of the movie is when Clark says that he’s happier in that place than in real life, because there he can “rewrite” his own life. **A heartbreaking reminder that some people would rather lose their ego, their thoughts, and their humanity to a yellow void than confront the wreckage of their own lives. “They simply exist. Like furniture.”** Rip Dr.Mary though you would’ve loved Jane Austen.

I want to start by saying that this movie shows how sexual violence and abuse can be perfectly hidden in front of other people, how it can exist even without being shown at all. In fact this movie was a perfect example of how deranged some men’s brains can be when they’re OBSESSED with someone or something. At first glance Bear seems to be an innocent pal that only wishes for love and care by the woman he “loves”, but as soon as the movie goes on we can see how this innocent wish turns out to be a total nightmare for a woman that is stripped of her own life but especially her mind and body, we witness all types of abuse every time we see Nikii and Bear interact with each other, for example we have a perfect case of sexual abuse in the scene where they have sex, where to Bear he’s finally achieving a goal, a “dream” of a lifetime, while instead the actual Nikki (which is aware of what’s happening to her as it’s implied many times during the movie) can’t do anything about and probably wouldn’t do it or agree to it at all. And just like that as soon as Bear realizes what “his” beloved Nikki has just become he want’s to run away or change everything again, but the worst part, the one that makes us understand that the one committing the “horrific” acts in this horror movie it’s Bear and not the poor “creepy” and uncanny Nikki, it’s when Bear starts to refer to himself as the victim of all, as if HE didn’t cast this curse on the poor girl and change everyone’s life, oh poor Bear. Loved the hidden gems in the movie though. Inde Navarette reminds me of my ex , but still loved the movie.

Nice movie, nothing crazy about it, just mix terminator and incel men’s insecurities and you get this movie, Josh represents pretty much that part of men society where there are those so insecure that need to have total control over their girlfriend otherwise they cannot trust her or enjoy the relationship. Nice tutorial on how to not act in a relationship as a grown man pretty much.
