It
Lowkey torn about this movie. The kid actors are so deeply deeply good, but the Stephen King-isms are a little tough. The way he writes women and characters of color? Tough.
But the fun of it, the nostalgia, and the really beautiful shots that just kinda capture the beauty of childhood innocence? Beautiful.
The fact that everything Bev is is defined by the men in her life? I get that it’s kinda the point, but the movie still does that.
Mike, the only black character, showing up like halfway through and getting an eighth of the character development everyone else got? Not cool.
And was it… scary? Not really, not mostly. Georgie’s death and the scene with Bev covered in blood were the two moments I really felt horror.
But overall, still a decent ride.
At the end of the day, this is to Welcome to Derry what Rogue One is to Andor: decent source material for a show that is wayyyyyy better then it realistically should have been.
