Secrets We Keep
What an ending. Probably my longest review, I just had so much to say about how It tries to make a meaningful ending but instead it feels off because of the depiction of the entire plot and the characters.
I get what it was trying to portray, but it felt rushed and off. Cecilia suddenly betrays her own principles, throughout the series, she’s shown to deeply care about the case, even risking everything by leaking info about her husband, and her friend. She's portrayed as someone who dares to care, because she is born with privilege. Her sudden change feels too easy and fast, contradicts everything we’ve seen about her.
Then there's her role as a mother. She says she wants to be a good one, yet ends up being worse to Viggo. The reason why Viggo leaked the group and tells her because he finally realize it was too much and believed his 'good' mother would do the right thing. But she chooses to stay silent, also Viggo loves Angel sm and seeing Angel suffer, and her friends don't get justice should've made him angry and disappointed in his mother who did nothing. How does Cecilia not think of that? All she does the entire movie is overthink lol.
And don’t even get me started on her husband. The audacity to be angry about being called out, when he helps Oscar with such calm and confidence because deep down, he still doesn’t think rape is a big deal.
but it is interesting that in the whole series there are no secrets, or the secrets are not kept for long, Cecilia leaks to the police, the police don't keep anything a secret, and Vigo Told his mother about the video even though he had been threatened, It's a bit of a contradiction with the ending and the title.
