Lady Bird
I really loved this movie, my favorite part was the comparison between her and her mom. Although me and my mom have a different mother daughter relationship from them, I truly felt some of the moments they had and related to it so deeply. I love coming of age movies so much they show the true messiness, chaos, and emotions I feel right now at 17.
I saw this TikTok comment that perfectly describes this movie, “@neri: having a mother that doesn't like you as a person but loves you as a daughter is so hard like i just want you to like who i am not because you have to but because you want to.”
I feel this describes lady bird and her mom, as well as me and her mom perfectly. Sometimes I feel exactly like ladybird and how irritated she gets at her mom for not understanding her. I sometimes feel like the biggest disappointment to my parents. I’ve always been very introverted, and shy. I can never really speak up for myself and struggle to push myself out in the world. My dream is to work in film, and it makes me hate myself even more. My parents are immigrants and worked hard to make a place for themselves in this country. I feel like every time I think about the future, it’s just a failure and I won’t amount to any success.
